  • Wade Knapp, Kyle Weems, Jay Tunnell, and Theron Wilson

Four good Kansas players that Turgeon missed out on and Marshall really got here too late to have a chance. It's pathetic to me at least one of these guys isn't on our roster. :-x

Three of them are from Turgeon's hometown incidentally and he didn't even seriously recruit Tunnell from what I understand.

Knapp was lousy last year (2.4 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 9.8 mpg) and is marginally good this year on a bad team. I'm glad we didn't get him.

Kyle (not Kris) Weems would have been nice. He came out of HS as an undersized PF. He's added an outside shot to become a potential SF.

Tunnell and Wilson are keepers. But Tunnell wasn't going to come here due to playing time. I have no idea if we recruited Wilson or not.

We did recruit Wilson but I'm not sure how strongly.

You're right in that Tunnell didn't want to sit.

Knapp only seems to be impressive against the Shox

Weems didn't excite that many people coming out of HS. He's really worked hard to develop his shot that was on display tonight.

        More reasons to redshirt freshman..

The only one I think we missed on is Weems. And, IIRC, we went after him fairly hard, but he chose MSU for whatever reason.

....uh....hindsight is 20/20. Blaming a former coaching staff for missing on a kid is always easy when the kid turns out to be great. Nobody knows the circumstances behind his recruitment. Maybe he didn't fit what the coaches were looking for? Maybe he didn't want to come to WSU? Maybe he didn't like the system? Maybe there was more playing time available at BU? Threads like this make no sense to me. In recruiting, you win some and lose some. As armchair coaches, it's easy for fans to sometimes look back AFTER a kid has turned out to be a stud, and blame a coach for "missing" an opportunity. Just because he is from Kansas, doesn't make WSU or any in-state school a front runner for every talented player.

I would define a "miss" as not recruiting a player you probably should have.

Going after a kid and him choosing another school isn't a miss, IMO.

Nah, I've stated my feelings on these threads. I'm not interested in rehashing what players we recruited in the past are doing. Most Valley teams recruit alot of the same players. You're bound to get some and not get others. Debating on the coulda, shoulda, woulda is pointless, IMO.

Agreed. We should have offered Wilson.

Josh Young would qualify as a miss...

                            KS Players

Wilson is the best of that bunch. They all seem to elevate their game when they play us. Weems especially seemed to be sending a message to Marshall.

Whatever. He is a decent player, but I don't think he would get that many minutes on our team.

Miss: Chris Brown, Ryan Bradley, Josh Young, most of the 07' class tha MT missed on following the sweet16 then bailing. I have never had a problem with coaches moving on I understand WSU is not a "destination" school, but to leave the way he did makes me question his integrity! I appreciate everything he did and building the program back up, but he tainted his legacy somewhat because of the "bare cupboard"! Now, I got that off my chest, I wish him no ill will and I hope GM can bring us back!
