Wow. I hope so, but man, we have just sucked in the tournament for the past 20 years that it's hard for me to even mention tournament, champions, WSU in the same sentence.

There's no question we can win this year's tournament. GG is a proven conference tournament contender. He has built his entire career around winning his conference's tournament. No reason to think he wont have a few tricks up his sleeve when he gets into St. Louie.

Now that I am seeing a steady, albeit very incremental, improvement in our team as the season progresses, it isn't a stretch to believe that we will be at our best come tournament time. Every Valley team but one has proven it can be beaten by just about anybody and NIU will not win both the conference and the tournament championship.

Oh what a great day it would be to be in the NCAA's this year...  :yahoo: :yahoo:

                Considering these factors:

1.) We are 0 for winning it all in St. Louis, even with a couple decent teams. So thinking this year's team can do it, is well,

2.) We'll have to win 4 games in 4 days. Na uh.

3.) Our longest winning steak this season is 3. And St. Louis is no Koch Arena.

As to the question at hand:
                NIT? Good possibility next year.
                NCAA? Good possibility in 2011.
                Deuces Valley.
                ... No really, deuces.

I've got to go with next year. I expect it will be the NIT.

Stutz - started the year at 235. That needs to be 255 - 260 next year.
Coy is on the roster at 6'8", 212 - Future Kyle Wilson?
Blair is on the roster at 6'8", 220
Ellis and Durley - both should have substantial improvement. Durley's attitude seems to be coming around.

Front court goes 7'0", 6'9", 6'8", 6'8", 6'7". Unfortunately, the 6'7" guy is the staring Center and probably isn't the guy jumping for tipoffs.

Hawkins - gotta hope he's shaking off rust. REALLY gotta hope he's shaking off rust.
Hatch - I think he can get his shooting touch back. Possibly the next Mr. Sparky hustle player.

Wing goes 6'5" and 6'4" with the possibility of throwing 6'8" Coy there against taller teams.

Guards - the future is Murry, Kyles, and Mannigault. Hannah and Murry get the bulk of minutes next year. Kyles and Mannigault will get their share of minutes next year, if Mannigault overcomes his problem with TO's. So far Chamberlain has been a streaky 6'1" SG.

The only Sr on that team is Hawkins.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

You're forgetting Hannah. By that time Manigault should be ready to step in at the point. At 6'3" and a nearly 7' reach he, Murry, and Kyles should be able to cause other teams a lot of trouble. I agree on most everything else.

I think we go to the NCAAs next year, if not the addition of Hamilton, after a red-shirt year, and hopefully EO should make the following year nearly a lock.

Here is what boggles the mind.

In Eddie Fogler's 1st season, we beat Tulsa to win the Valley Tournament. That was 1986-87.

Since then we have played 21 seasons, working on number 22.

Do you think there is 1 other team in D1 that has gone 22 seasons and not even played in the championship game of their conference tournament?

                        Haven't even made the finals.

And it's not like we finished last every season, by any stretch.

9 of the 21 seasons were in the top half of the conference. Not to even play for the title once is simply hard to grasp. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and then.

Don't bother looking up the Valley. Every team but us has played in the championship game at least 1 time since then.

Hope springs eternal. That is why we all take that awful drive year after year. We risk falling into a giant pothole on I-70 and spend way too much money on hotels. :goshocks:

True, but you'd think we were due for one......please?

2.) We'll have to win 4 games in 4 days. Na uh.
I hope this is another reverse psychology attempt. We're one game out of 6th place with five to play so there's really no telling where we'll end up.

And St. Louis is no Koch Arena.
Ah but Shocker fans do a great job imitating the atmosphere. Last year, even though we were a play-in team and we are furthest from St. Louis, we still had one of the better crowds. The year we went to the Sweet 16 and won *gasp* one game at the MVC tournament we had as good or better turnout as any school.

I think we have the potential to win it all as long as we avoid the play-in. That's not a prediction. I predict, like the most of you, that we will definitely see the post season again next year.
