He didn't say they were doing it...just said the perception is there amongst those in the business. That perception has been floating around numerous fanbases since the announcement of Hill's contract...Do you honestly think that his competitors would be immune to that same line of thought? Nobody has any proof though, so it's all just innuendo and speculation.

Gottlieb is one of the few analysts that doesn't cleanse everything he says to tow the company line. I like that about him and I think it makes him one of the best at his job along with Jay Bilas.
Good post. I agree that Shorts on Backwards was just saying what he's hearing. Nothing wrong with that. His unfiltered style is a refreshing personality at ESPN. He and Bilas are the two best analysts on ESPN right now.

I won't often, if ever, give props to KU but Shorts on Backwards is quite simply one of, if not the all time, funniest things a crowd has ever done in unison.

Followed closely by Shorts on Frontwards. Beyond classic.

Doug Gottlieb, current ESPN analyst, plays the first 8 minutes of the game with his shorts on backwards.

WSU getting Mo Evans who was a hometown kid, and KSU paying an ex AAU coach who happens to send 3 of his kids from DC to Manhattan, KS, are no where even closely related. Sorry.

Not even remotely the same. Mo grew up watching the Shox during the days of Carr, Levingston, Sherrod, and X. The kids he brought in may have not even had any idea of where Kansas was located.

Despite the fact that Mo was a lifelong fan and wanted to play for WSU, we still got accused of cheating to get him because people couldn't believe he would choose WSU over KU or some other BCS team. It does nothing but perpetuate and feed that mindset for us to say that it is so fishy and far fetched that k-state would get these recruits. Always people try to say well when someone else gets a whopper they are cheating but if we catch a big one it was because of our little special circumstance. To the eyes of most of the basketball world Wichita doesn't blow Manhattan away as a more appealing place to play the game. So if their recruits are all suspect, any that we get will be too in the eyes of that same world.
Gottlieb sucks whether he is refreshing or not.

Roy was just hoping we were cheating. He couldn't accept the fact that Mo would rather stay home.

Why else would they pay an assistant with little experience 400k? It's definitely shady even if nothing is going on.

But common sense tells me the Beasleys of the world use a "what can you do for me" selection process. The relationships are just the avenue to get them what they want. Again, all just my opinion.

I don't think the Evans situation is even remotely close to the KSU situation. Mo decided he wanted to play for the team he grew up watching and could be watched by his family.

Is Gottlieb blowing hot air? I doubt it. The people he's talking to could be. But I think it's naive to believe that a few/some/most elite players aren't getting compensated outside of NCAA rules.
If I recall Beasley was going to follow Hill to Charlotte before Huggins got the job. Hill didn't make 400k when he first came to manhattan. And the thought that Beasley who knew darn good and well he would be making an outlandish amount of money after his freshman year would risk his reputation and future marketability over a few trinkets Dalonte Hill could procure for him is quite frankly, very unlikely. I chalk this kind of talk up to pure Jealousy on behalf of coaches that just don't recruit very well.

On the contrary, why would the #1 recruit in the nation choose to play for UNC-Charlotte because of Dalonte Hill and then immediately bolt to K-State when Dalonte bolted to K-State?

Is anyone here ignorant of the dirty money that flows through AAU basketball? I hope not.

Beasley was going to go to UNC Charlotte because Hill was there. That's UNC-Charlotte, how many big time players have they recruited? Sooooo, when Hill gets hired by Huggins and decides to follow him to K State that's a big deal? That relationship didnt mean anything right?I think a lot of people in here are jealous and reaching.

Who cares what's going on at KSU? Their GRCOAT got them one W in the NCAA's. Even with their recent success, their RPI is 80, which would put them in the upper half of the Valley, and is likely to get them an NIT bid.

If KSU is cheating, they're not doing it very well. Not well enough that anybody is going to care enough to check them out.

Correction. Absolutely none of them knew the location of Kansas. No "maybe" about it.

The ksu "recruits" come from AAU teams that have coaches with relationships with hill. It would be interesting to look at his tax return and see how a young man spends his money and where/what organizations he makes "donations" to. The AAU side of the equation is a somewhat grey area to say the least. If we had a similar situation I'm sure we would all be thinking the same thing, "What a great deal this is, I just HOPE nothing comes back to bite us in the butt down the road". And when I say bite I mean a bite like "lack of institutional control".
