When our team gives me a reason to be 'full', then I'll fill up.

Sorry for the dose of reality from time to time. I'll try better to stay clear of it.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

Myself, I see no need go hold back "being full" of Shocker spirit. I'm not going to sit and wait for the team to meet my expectations before I become "full." You can call it not being realistic if you want, or following in blind faith, whatever...I believe we get better results when we exemplify a "full of spirit" and hopefulness when it comes to Shocker sports. That's what sets us apart from all the rest.

It's pretty obvious that winning only 5 of the last 6 games is good reason to have your glass half empty, but I'm just too much of an optimist. While I am realist enough to know that things can turn around at any moment, I also see that the teams we are competing with to stay out of the bottom 4 all have tough schedules. The Shockers have as much chance as Drake, SIU and possibly Evansville (if the Shox can win Saturday) of making 5th or 6th. SIU is down to 8 players and without their leader (Mullins). Drake started great, but has completely fallen apart in recent weeks and Evansville has some tough games ahead.

The Shox have tough games in UNI at home, Evansville and SIU on the road. However, SIU was already having a bad year, then lost Mullins. The Shox have played well enough to beat UNI in 3 of the last 4 home games and after finally winning on the road, it is entirely possible for the Shox to step up and win one at Evansville.

I was actually stupid enough to believe that the St. Louis Cardinals had finally gotten enough of their injured players back going into the post season that they had a chance to go all the way in 2006. Yes, they had been horrible in July, August and September, but that was while they were decimated with injuries. Finally, just before the post season started, all those players who had given the Cardinals the gigantic lead the first half of the season were healthy (except Izzy) and they stepped up to win the World Series.

Young, inexperienced teams have the best opportunity to improve during the season. The more experienced teams normally will play nearer their top level early while the younger teams can really show improvement. I am seeing a great deal of improvement in many of the freshmen, sophomores, and transfers from early in the season and really believe that the Shockers can be a team to contend with throughout February, and possibly into March.

I was so frustrated in J.T. early that I was ready to give up on him. However, he has really played so much better all around than last year and early this year that I am thrilled with him. A.J. is still having some problems getting consistent offensively, but he has been so much better defensively the past 5 or 6 games that I believe he will be a help down the stretch. Hatch has played well, but has not done what we all know he can do, which is shoot. That will come back before this season is over and he will be a big help offensively as well as his defense and hustle. DK has improved so much over the past 5 games that he is hardly the same player. We are getting close to the time that Ramon seemed to really come alive offensively last year, and last night's game seemed to show some of that. He is a player who goes in streaks, especially on offense and hopefully he will be dominate the remainder of the season. Aaron Ellis has been so much better of late. Even when he is not scoring a lot, his defense and rebounding has been so much better lately that I feel good when he's in the game. I feel like Stutz is starting to show some signs of turning the corner again. He will not be dominate this year, but hopefully will be able to do some good things the remainder of the season. I just feel that he is slowly beginning to get some confidence back. I felt like Chamberlain had his most productive game of the season against Drake. He really didn't hurt the team when he came in that game. Hopefully he will have some good games between here and the end. He's not a star, but if he can just give some minutes without hurting the team, he will be a big benefit.

Toure Murry had one of his worst games in quite a while at Indiana State, but still made some really big plays when they mattered. I fully expect him to continue coming through for the team on a regular basis.

Clevin Hannah had some bad turnovers, but also made some excellent plays against Indiana State. I believe he is becoming more comfortable all the time at leading the team and will be strong down the stretch.

Yes, things can turn nasty real quick, but I prefer to believe that the improvements will continue and that this team will bring some real thrills between now and the end of the season.

Pre-season almost everybody thought the Shox would be better in the second half of the season.

At the 0-6 stage, I started predicting a W in every game and a 12-6 finish.

Since I started predicting Shox wins with no consideration of the opponent, the Shox, or anything resembling logic...

...Shox are 5-1. I've hit a predicted score within 1 point.

I'm sticking with 11-7. There is not a game left on the schedule that's an automatic loss with the way the Shox can play.

The first road W is the hardest. The next will be a bit easier.

I think we have a couple of Fr guards that will get a lot of minutes and show their ability to break down the best D WSU has seen this year.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

            Record

            You da man, Aargh.

I'll still be surprised if the Shocks win at Evansville -- where will the points come from? -- or finish better than 8-10 in the league. But they are getting better, and I hope they find a way, and I'll be quick to celebrate if they do.
