  • Bad News for SIU- Mullins Injured

    From Salukitalk.......

Bryan Mullins will not play against Illinois State Wednesday night. Looks like he has an issue (stress fracture?) in his right foot in the opposite leg that he had trouble with last year. He is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday.

Worst-case scenario? His SIU career could be finished. He was hurting badly after Saturday's loss at Evansville. Best-case scenario? He misses a week or two and rejoins the team for the home stretch.

While I feel bad for Mullins, this might help the Shockers avoid the play-in-round if Mullins really is lost for the year. SIU is now down to just 8 players.

I would rather beat them with Mullins!

That makes it a lot easier to pass the Salukis.

They could suit up 5 Shakers and we'll have a tough time beating them on Senior Night. He's a tough, tough kid. I'll be surprised if he doesn't return but frankly it is of no concern to us right now except that it makes it more likely they won't beat ISU on Wednesday.

I'm no Saluki fan, but I sure do like Mullins.

          Great player.

Sucks for the Dawgs. Mullins is a heck of a player and a fierce competitor. Without him I'm not sure what SIU is capable of. I'm not sure they stand much of a chance now against the 'Birds. This definitely could help us if we can take care of business but I hate to see it happen this way. Hopefully the kid gets better.

With only 8 players suiting up and the style of basketball the Dawgs play, this may not be the last injury for them this season. I bet now they are wishing those players didn't leave the program earlier in the season.

I'm with the Dr on this one, I just hope we don't need that last game of the season to stay out of the play-in-round because I can just see the following scene play out right now.....

Mullins isn't dressed up during the pre-game warmups, but after the team goes into the locker room at the 10 minute mark, Mullins comes out in uniform a'la Willis Reed and the emotional lift he gives the Salukis and their fans will be too much for the Shockers to overcome.

I hope I'm wrong, but that just sounds like something that would happen to WSU.

                  Mullins

I have all the respect in the world for Bryan Mullins and I truly hope that the best case scenario proves true. It is horrible to see a player give heart and soul for his team for 3 1/2 years, then have to lose the last half season due to an injury. I think back to John Cooper and to some extent to Matt Braeuer. John was set to have a wonderful senior season, then an early season injury finished his career. Matt missed so much time his senior season due to his concussions.

                  Best wishes Bryan.

Injuries happen to every team. It sucks for him and SIU. Wishing him a quick recovery, but also realizing everybody has to deal with this.

Their team kinda sounds like ours not too long ago when we barely suited up enough players to put a full team on the court. Well, we can still mathematically make 2nd place, we just need SIU to go 2-5 the rest of the way.

Sorry to here about Mullins and hope he recovers quickly. I'm curious about SIU - dont they have some walk ons that they can use? I remember WSU had to use some for a lot of minutes in the season MartyMoose mentioned.

Heaven help them if the refs are calling a "tight" game like we saw recently.

I hope he is ok and I hope he gets better, but I still want the win and if we get it with him on the bench, so be it.

From reading SalukiTalk, it seems their top walkon is hurt.

Mullins always struck me as a guy who would go through a brick wall to get the ball. And his nose looked like he had failed that a few times, but kept trying until he got it right.

Mullins possibly the end of his Sr season is a bummer. That's the last thing I'd want to see happen to about any player. There are exceptions.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Although injuries happen and all teams have to deal with it, it still sucks, especially if it ends the player's college career.
