  • When is the last time we had four Shockers dunk in one game?

We actually would have had six if Stutz wouldn't have missed his bunny and Ramon wouldn't have been hammered on his way to the rack.

GG recruits MY type of players!!!!!!

It's a great day to be athletic!

Cold---Great minds think alike. I was thinking the same of our impressive 'ups' yesterday. As a matter-of-fact-fiction, during one such dunk yesterday, I soared so high in the air, I could have sworn I heard a dude from the seats above bellow out---"FSF----DOWN IN FRONT!!!!!!!"
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

As much as I loved the dunks, especially at the end when Drake was still pressing like it mattered, Ramon's block was my favorite highlight from yesterday.

Ramon's block and his subsequent posturing and high-fives with the students was indeed noteworthy.

However, when Ellis was found breaking and made those two huge accelerating strides with a MONSTER two-handed finish, I was hopping around like a madman!

The excitement of Ellis's dunk could only be matched in polarity by Garrett's miss. That was VERY Ryan Bradley-esque. The lack of aggressiveness that he displayed, point blank in front of the rim, is indicative of the timidity by which he plays. That boy needs to drink a big glass of mean before he gets out on the court next time. And if he isn't a two-legged jumper (I've seen him dunk fairly easily in stride or on breakaways), that needs to change QUICKLY!

I'm a BIIIG fan of athletes and athletic plays! Yesterday, I was a happy man!

        P.S.

        Toure' Murry is a god.

        That is all.

          dunks

when was the last team we dunked four times total in one game? Cohen and Thompson teams went weeks without touching orange.

Thanks! You just made me lose my Sunday brunch with that historical mental image.

Dunking is so important in a game. Nothing wakes a crowd up and keeps them cheering like a big dunk. Nothing demoralizes an opposing team (a big block comes close) than a big dunk. Nothing creates excitement in a local and national community like a team that loves to dunk. Top 10 teams are Top 10 dunking machines. That is why I love Memphis, they seem to have the best athletes in the nation every year.

Joining CUSA and having that squad roll into Wichita annually would make my Shocker lifetime.

              P.S.

That rebound and immediate flush by Durley should have made Shocker fans from the 1980's feel reminiscent. What power, what aggression, what a statement!

Durley is becoming the Durley we all had hoped for. He is playing with purpose, passion, and pride.

I think it was actually a positive that GS even attempted the dunk. At least it shows that his mind is starting to become agressive...eventually...the body will follow. My guess is that with extended time being spent in the weight-room that the days of getting hung up on the rim or attempting to finish below it will be in the past. Let's hope that the off-season is kind to GS. I think I am beginning to see a little more muscle being developed even during this season.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, and I wasn't even going to post this, but since you brought it up...

I have actually noticed Garrett getting weaker as the season has went on. He is definitely showing some durability issues his freshman year. And just recently I have noticed he is looking kind of uncoordinated (and quite slow) at times just trying to move around in the paint. He never looked like that during the summer and the games were played balls out. He was also a lot more aggressive then. All you have to do is look at a youtube video I have of him snatching a rebound and banging bodies as he scores.

Only time will tell his ultimate durability, but this season has really worn him down mentally and physically. His new big body never saw anything like this in High School. I surely hope he doesn't become a Paul Miller in that he takes 4 years to show glimmers of a mean streak. I was just discussing this very subject during the game. When I saw Paul over the summer he was one MEAN MOFO. He was snatching down rebounds, flying to the rack like a dunking machine. Pro ball has done wonders for Paul's mentality. He is no longer FiFi...

Confidence can surely make a player with talent look like a talentless clown. I'm sure that has a lot to do with Garrett right now. Lack of confidence and fear can actually rob you of strength. Garrett is very competitive and is hard on himself. I'm sure he is not very happy right now. He needs some motivational therapy so he can continue to believe that he is a good player with a solid future.

I think Stutz has a lot of tools but I am beginning to question his vertical leap. That can be changed somewhat in the weight room if he builds muscle easily.

I'm with Cold on this one. A D1 basketball season is tough on bodies. Look what happened to Kyle Wilson when he had to bang as a post player instead of playing the 4. Stutz has lost weight during the season and probably isn't as physically strong as he was at the beginning of the season.

I think his aggressiveness is improving some, but the bar was set pretty low. I liked his steal. A DU player showed him the ball in the paint and Garrett took it.

Garrett needs another 20 pounds. That's more muscle mass for storing energy and will help him endure the rigors of a basketball season. I doubt Stutz is 20 pounds heavier next year. If he can put on 30 pounds by his Jr year, I think we'll start seeing some good production out of Stutz.

I'm not down on Stutz. I wasn't expecting much this year. A little more than we're getting, but not much more. He's giving what we need. He gets some production in his minutes.

I'm afraid his development might be a year longer than I was expecting (or hoping). Right now he's a 7' guy without much muscle mass, not much of a vertical, and he seems to have to think on the court instead of react.

The mental part of the equation is a matter of repetitions and can be solved fairly quickly. The muscle mass and toughness that comes with that may take longer. It might be his Jr. year before we see what Stutz is really made of.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Any of us on here would get run down by the rigors of a season. Screwey schedule, lots of physical activity, and you just get plain tired by the end of it.

He needs to be on the Shawn Bradley diet. Wasn't it something like order half the menu and intake like 11000 calories or something like that?

Some players are getting better as the season goes on: Murry, Ellis, Durley. Stutz certainly shouldn't be tired, it isnt' like he is playing 30 mins. a game.

Exactly what I was thinking. Everybody on the team except for Durley should be on high-calorie (weight-gainer) shakes. Stutz should be sh#!ing 3 times a day because he is eating so often.

I agree with Cold and you on almost all points.

I particularly believe Garrett is worn down emotionally.

When his timid pass was intercepted, the look on his face was one of despair or dejection. Most players would get angry with himself and hurl himself back into action. Not so with Garrett. His confidence level is hovering around zero.

During one play, a Bulldog was pushing him around pretty good in the paint. Garrett decided to push back. He did so, but it was sorta girl like. The defender was hardly moved. Garrett had an embarrassed look on his face.

While I am sure Garrett will improve over time and perhaps become a nice role player, I am not so sure he will be the great player as has been predicted by so many.

Nothing would make me happier than to be proven dead wrong. The best outcome would be another Paul Miller or Troy Mack like story.

That's not what I saw. I think someone else popped the ball out of the DU player's hands and it just ended up magically in front of GS. I would not call that his steal.
