Basically says that no MVC team has a resume for an at large bid.

      MVC

At large spots go to teams, not leagues.

The Valley has a respectable RPI as a conference, but the best RPI rank of any team (according to Warren Nolan) is 3rd place Illinois State's 63rd, followed by league leader UNI at 67th. Those numbers will very, very seldom get you an at large spot in the tournament.

You cannot convince me that this is always true. You hear the selection committee say it all the time. But, MSU deserved to go to the tourney the same year WSU did but there was no way the ncaa was gonna let 5 teams in from the MVC.

Didn't MSU have a 25 RPI rating that year? And they got snubbed!

I think I said in another thread a year or so ago, when this was discussed, that the NCAA selection committee would never overlook a BCS school with an RPI of 21.

I agree; they got the shaft. But if the committee were really that concerned about how many Valley teams got in, why didn't they send the Bears and skip over someone else?

In any case, the point for now is that Valley teams with RPI ranks in the 60s aren't going to get at large spots, and they won't be getting shafted when they don't. So this year maybe more than ever, it's absolutely essential to win the conference tournament.

Tyr to find quality wins for Valley teams outside of the Valley. WSU's W over Siena (RPI 21) is probably the best in the league.

IlSt's top-100 W's are Wright St. (100), Evansville (72), and Creighton (74). Their loss to InSt (243) coupled with with their SOS and lack of quality wins (particularly OOC) and they don't have a chance at an at-large.

UNI's only OOC top-100 W is Auburn (91). UNI has a HOME loss to InSt. Lose at home to InSt this year and you're out of the dance. You don't deserve to go either.
