Stutz should have red shirted....
I like WSu as a program but I'm not sold on Marshall. Proabably unfair as WSU is young but we went wit 3 freshman and two soph. much of the game.
Hang in there.....a road loss won't hurt you. See ya in St Louis...

A coach shouldn't "rip" another coach's player unless he is attacking, bad mouthing, or being otherwise unsportsmanlike toward one of your players, can we agree on that?
But saying something like "show some class" or "that was uncalled for" to a guy that clearly is being classless, is that out of line? Telling an opponent, "pull up your pants and show the game some respect" can't be wrong either, if a kid is sagging like a thug?
I, too, don't know what was said but generally when something is said it isn't "ripping" the player -- it's just letting him know that his behavior was uncalled for. I don't see anything wrong with that.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

He then said JL IMMEDIATLEY went to Marshall and apologized.....he goes on to say "GM was NOT in a forgiving mood and let the Roberts kid have it in words not fit for print."
Had I been the coach I would like to think I would have blown it off. Easy for me to say but in the heat of the moment we ALL do stoopid things...kids AND adults.
To me..its over....BOTH teams have more pressing issues at hand, like the next game.

Promos
"I don't like this line of reasoning.
If they were 5 points away from triggering a promotion, would that justify hitting a quick 3 and trying to steal the ensuing inbounds pass?
The players should not be cognizant of these types of things, IMO."
Well, Royal, back in the real world...
a) It wasn't so much about the player; it was about the fans egging the player on, something we also used to see here back in the days when there was a promotion that was actually possible for Shocker fans to collect once in a while. Roberts, who is new at Bradley this year, overreacted. Stuff like that happens once in a while.
b) If they were five points away, chances are the fans wouldn't have been all fired up. Back in the days of 80 point burgers at WSU I don't recall our crowds going crazy on 75 with a few seconds left, and I doubt that it would have happened in Peoria either. But they were one point away and had the ball, so I'm not at all surprised the fans got greedy. It used to happen on 78 or 79 here, too, and it isn't out of the question that a WSU player might overreact -- once -- if such a situation were to arise again. You can bet Marshall would set him straight if he did, but I don't think there's any reason to doubt that Les didn't want that shot taken, either, or that he corrected Roberts's error afterwards.
c) The players shouldn't be cognizant of such things? Well, maybe in a perfect world. In this one, they almost certainly are; and even if they aren't, they can certainly hear, and can more easily hear the crowd than their coaches. (Remember Sasha's mischievous ball-between-the-knees fakes that Fogler hated?)
d) No, it shouldn't have happened. But the best way to guard against stuff like that is to not be down 12 as time runs out in the first place. The winning team doesn't worry about being insulted. So let's try being up 12 instead, and then the other guys can shoot buzzer-beaters to their hearts' content.

He points out JL HAS to nip this stuff in the BUD...toot sweet. For the record JL and the staff were yelling "don't shoot...Don't shoot"...I can attest to that from where I sat.
Again..its over...I can understand ALL sides on this (non) issue. It wasn't directed at WSU...now had the opponents been ISU..hmmmmm THAT would have been fun.
Hey you guys are 3-1 in the last four games....forget this crap and get back to beating the SIU's...UNI's...etc.
Good luck....

A player needs to have more class, presence of mind, and understanding of how his actions will be perceived. Chants from the crowd should not supercede any of those character traits.

I didn't know if we were ready to win this game. I think Bradley is pretty good, a legit #2 in the Valley. I think it's a little early to expect a win in that situation. I just hope we can take care of business at home on Saturday, if not, we may be back to the old Shockers. Eh. But I think they'll do us proud.
Go Shox!

bu
The last second shot was pure bush league but the bigger issue is the Shockers' dreadful appearance. It is hard to understand why these guys can't give sustained effort on the road. Every phase was awful. I'm tired of the 'young team' b.s. I want consistent effort each night. Going 7 or 9 minutes without a fg is just unexcusable.

I really don't understand the hype about a team running a CU dunk play or BU hitting a 3 at the end of the game. Big freakin' deal.
Whatever happend to "give me your best shot, because as a player, team and a program I'm going to keep coming back at you".
I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with BU hitting a 3 to jack up the score. They beat us. What difference does an extra 3 make (unless you're laying bets or something). I wouldn't have given a ratz ass if he had hit it from midcourt, halfcourt, or from the stands. The game's over, we lost, and rubbing a little salt in the wound never hurt anyone. In fact it probably builds character.
The point is for the program to get to the point where opponents' 3s are being jacked up at half court to get the score closer in contrast to running up the score. Until then, bring on the salt...
Now from the Shocker perspective, I'd be disappointed with WSU running up the score, because you want to show a little pity and mercy on your victim.
