"He is a big GM fan" he has to say that, can't imagine what GM would do to him one on one. I'm sorry I missed the 1410 interview, did he make an appearance on 1240 this week?

This would have been probably 94-97?
So, his tenure as the Sunflower "sports editor" was colored by the bad basketball being played in the Roundhouse. I was frankly surprised when he was picked up by the Eagle.

I know. I know. Jimmy was unprofessional.
It is quite fascinating that a sports reporter has zero understanding of the full dimensions and emotions of jubilation in sports. It is not just reserved for national championships.
Jimmy V had just won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP after a last second, miracle tip-in. You can do whatever you want in celebration after winning a National Title. GM acted like an excited monkey who just found the last banana on the island after beating lowly Evansville to become 3-6 in Valley play and not tied for last place. It's no where near the same. Not even close. Should he have been excited? Yes, it was a pretty fantastic finish. But perhaps he should have toned it down a little bit. Even just one double fist pump would have sufficed, but GM decided to go with 4, then carry off the AD like he was Rudy. I don't know JP at all, but he's paid to give his opinion and I agree with him. I usually enjoy GM's antics, but this time I believe GM went a little overboard and was a little unprofessional."You can observe a lot just by watching."

Besides, it was not a tip in.

In celebration, the fans, students, coaches and players stormed the court.

Uproot yourself and your family, leave a job you've held for nearly a decade. Come into a pressure cooker of an occupation, carrying the hopes and expectations of hundreds of thousands of fans with you on a 24 hour per day basis. Go from always winning to always losing. Rely on a bunch of kids to make your living and satisfy your own competitive makeup, as well as those of your boss and an entire city. Spend every waking hour worrying and fretting. Jump on a plane and go watch some 16 year olds and think about staking your career on them. Have a recruit die in front of you. Work for 18 months to fight corruption and red tape in Nigeria. See game film in your restless sleep. Be told "no" 30 times for every "maybe." Lose scores of close games. Take some calls from "fans" wondering why you didn't go man to man in the last 30 seconds of the last game or whether you ever have the players shoot free throws in practice. Compete cleanly against other programs with envelopes stuffed with crispy hundreds. Make sure 15 teenagers stay out of trouble, go to class and represent the university properly. Then, after you have completed the above items, criticize a coach for celebrating a dramatic, come from behind win a little too exuberantly.Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
