The Eagle's pretenders can be pretty amazing at times in the pomposity of their criticism.

I remember years ago, back in the late 80's, when Dave Armstrong did a stint as WSU's (all-time best, in my view) courtside announcer and adopted the style of whipping up the crowd that has prevailed for years in pretty much all NBA arenas The Eagle's now-forgotten columnist Bob Curtright (although at least he didn't claim to be a sports guy) thought Armstrong's enthusiastic calls -- in my mid I can still hear him bellowing out, "SA-sha Raduuuunovich!" -- were bush league, as maybe in Curtright's small-town world they were. But not in (for example) Houston, where their courtside announcer had long since been firing up the crowd with "EEEEEE!" when Elvin Hayes would score to keep a Rockets run going.

Parson is just the latest in a line of bozos. It's a proud Eagle tradition.

I hate Dave Armstrong. HATE. Total prack. HUGE beaker arsekissing KC wannabe lying cheating hustling dillweed.

Did anyone happen to mention that when the game was over, the crowd DIDN'T LEAVE!
Everybody just stood and clapped and yelled. That probably went on for about 3 minutes. I mean there was no one headed for the exits where I was sitting. NO ONE!
I don't see any problem with Marshall acknowledging the crowd and celebrating with them a bit. I was glad to see Marshall excited.
There is the old adage, "act like you've been there before". No problem, except that Marshall has never been "there" before at WSU. He's always been on the other side of "there" and had it handed to him with buzzer-beaters.
I really doubt the UE team stayed on the court for the 3 to 5 minutes that the corwd celebrated with Marshall after the game. I bet they heard it in their locker room.

I was at the game. I watched Marshall. I was screaming and laughing with great joy for about three minutes after that unbelievably beautiful shot. Marshall joyously carried the AD out after a badly needed win, Yeahhh Yeahh!............................................ ............................................."Unpr ofessional"?...................................... .................................................. ...........................................No.

If Marshall had calmly walked down the tunnel with the crowd still on its feet and cheering, I'd be disappointed.

That would be like a baseball player who hit a walk-off in a critical game, the crowd called for an appearance, and the player didn't step out of the dugout.

That's an insult to the crowd.

Parsons has no idea about the exhileration of winning, particularly in the last few seconds of a ball game.

Competitive athletes are only interested in winning. They have no truck for losing.

Competitive coaches are of the same stripe.

Just because a participant is wearing a coat and tie, it doesn't mean he cannot be thrilled with high emotion upon winning a tough game.

Parsons is a jerk for even mentioning the criticism. It must have been a slow news day for him.

Thanks for posting that.

There were so many inaccuracies made by Parsy-pooper in that rambling bit of nonsense that I may not remember them all as I point them out.

1.) Parsy-pooper doesn't know Gregg Marshall very well.
2.) Parsy-pooper didn't get a good score on the vocab test when 'unprofessional' came up.
3.) Parsy-pooper assumes every coach should act the same way when expressing excitement over a come-from-behind victory.
4.) Parsy-pooper claimed that HCGM was 'showing up the opponent'. It's hard to show up an opponent when they were done shaking hands and walking off the floor. I'm confident to say that no one associated with EU even knows that this existed. The only thing they have known were some extra roars from the crowd heading into the locker room.
5.) Parsy-pooper has never been put in the position Marshall has been placed in. Pooper has probably never even been associated with athletics in general. Ignorance is his friend.
6.) Parsy-pooper got 'showed up' by Bruce in the end, which means he was most definitely wrong.

Marshall, the Shockers' second-year coach, is an excitable guy, in case you haven't noticed.

How could you not?

He's a walking neon sign, animated by 10,000 volts of energy soaring through his body.

His reaction after Sunday's exciting 51-50 win over Evansville at Koch Arena, thanks to a Murry three-point with eight seconds to play, was expressive, to say the least.

He went to the south end of the arena and motioned wildly to fans. And they motioned wildly back to him. There has been some talk since that his reaction was over the top and unprofessional.

Please.

Marshall's enthusiasm is almost permanently switched on. He gets fired up talking about the grass being green.

As a columnist, I know I'm going to have an occasional misunderstanding with Marshall because he's just that way. There are times when I write something he doesn't particularly like, and he makes his point.

Marshall is a funny guy. I worry he's going to burn himself out, but he's been coaching a long time and so far it hasn't happened.

His reaction after Sunday's win struck me as boyish, fun, unique, wild -- a lot of things. But not unprofessional.

He's been through a lot in his year and a half as WSU's coach. Most of it hasn't given him much of a cause to celebrate.

As Marshall's teams win more, he'll tone down the celebratory stuff. But I hope he never eliminates it completely. It's part of what makes him, him.

I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the Super Bowl hype.
