  • Evansville coach on the crowd

GoShockers.com has the following quote posted from the EU coach.

Evansville Coach Marty Simmons on the game: “They’re a difficult team to guard. They’ve been playing extremely well, they’re one of the hotter teams in the league. Our effort and intensity is much improved. I think more than anything just the crowd, having a lead and the situation itself got to us more than we want to admit.”
And this in a situation where Evansville had taken the crowd out of the game for the majority of the minutes. But the crowd was very loud down the stretch. :yahoo:

You could see Ely react on his first free throw (right at the end of the game) when the crowd got loud - and LOUDER and LOUDER.

I was around the exit level in GA - and it got insanely loud.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

True----18-18 from the stripe against us last Season by Mr. Ely. We had to have lots of things all go right towards the end to pull this game out. A loss today would have really hurt. Now the Shox can huddle up and shore up some glaring issues we witnessed today.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Here is my take on the crowd. We sucked today, I am sick of expecting the players to show up every game and we dont. We sucked today and it better not happen again!!! Sorry, Im done.

That's the way it needs to stay, too. From the student section, it's hard to hear how much the rest of the arena is jeering, but we need all the help we can get.

I think it's very important that we start BEFORE they get the ball in their hand, too. Don't give them any opportunity to settle themselves before the shot.

When the people in the top row really start banging on the metal wall, it can get loud FAST.

Did anybody else look at what that coach was wearing? His vest and the Evansville colors made him look just like a FedEx delivery guy. Too Funny.

WstateU, how did you know? No really though, we are not good enough to win on our own. So we have to help them win. Not when we feel like to but all the time. This is Koch Arena!!! You can tell this team and coach really enjoys the crowd. Lets show them what we can do! :good:

It was a weird day. It seemed like the crowd wanted to get into it but the game was so paper-bag-ugly that it just didn't happen. They'd get loud for moments, like after the charge calls, and then just die out.

Hey, crowds have bad days too, but everybody hit their stride when it mattered. I just hope the guys can keep it going in Peoria.

When a team plays like our team did, it is very hard to cheer. There just isn't anything to cheer for.

However, you would still hear the clapping get louder as CH would bring it down court whilst in that awful cold spell we started in.

That was some of the loudest booing I've ever been a part of too.

                        The boos were deserved.

During that stretch of booing the officials they moved a WPD to stand at the entrance of sections 114 and 117. It was a little ugly but everyone remained in control.

No one in the valley comes close to crowd intensity as us. We should win 80% of conference home games with our crowd. I think our young team was a bit nervous in front of us early on though, but I think they're getting used to, and thriving off us now. I think the crowd is starting to be a boost in morale to our players. With this kind of atmosphere, we're going to be a hot team going into the valley tournament.
