Only if they don't have Orlandoitis. When they returned from Orlando since they competed with the big boys and actually won a game they weren't expected to win, they had the idea they were a cohesive unit and were playing well enough to win in the MVC. If anything, it was a rude awakening. Let's hope the lesson is learned. Once the game is over, no amount of wishing gets it back again. You have to play the game during the game.

Exactly what I'm worried about with this game. Let's not forget that the Shox didn't look so great in the first half against Illinois St. Only a second half of complete basketball led them to a win.
Don't get me wrong, I'm expecting a win against Evansville, and riding a 3 game win streak would be terrific. Hopefully, the Shox come out focussed and together. When that happens, this team has looked pretty decent.
Not that I am trying to be like KC (and Lord knows somebody should try since he is oddly absent during good times) and taking the contrarian stance but I think this is the perfect example of the "up and down" year we all expected.
EU has plenty of talent to beat us.
We should win......we have better material.........
Another step forward would be huge for everyone. I'm just not yet convinced we are ready to take it.
Now see what you did? You guys got me all fired up about Eddie and now I can't distinguish one #### Valley addition from another.
I'm still holding back on my feelings for this game, but it's a must-win to have any real legitimate chance at surpassing expectations. It's also a must-win because we should NEVER lose to Evansville at home. I don't care how 'bad' we are. It's also vital in the effort to shut that toolbag Aces1982 up on VT.. :)
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

You're right that it wasn't a great half (1st half) but it wasn't terrible. Too many turnovers and a few blown assignments from our bigs, but aside from that the effort was good. Really the reason they (Redbirds) were ahead was that they were nailing every big shot they could--most were contested. Eldridge was nearly unstoppable in the first half.
UE isn't any better (and some might argue worse) than Ill. State or Creighton. I'm really hoping the guys have learned that A+B=C (effort+execution=SUCCESS) and have started to understand the kind of performance it takes to be competitive in this league.
If they have--I predict a victory. If they haven't, well--it might be a long night. I truly believe that they have learned or will learn enough to never go back to the mindset of the Missouri State game.

:goshocks:
I didn't feel they were playing with the intensity during the first half that they had during the ENTIRE Creighton game. They came out like gangbusters the second half and stayed up (even when we feel behind, and then caught back up AGAIN). In previous years we would have folded if we had expended that kind of engergy catching up and trying to stay there. It is so refreshing to know that we can finish. As to the mindset of the MSU game -- I don't think we will get that low again, but we might have slips backward. Those slips can be costly. I don't want to come from behind. I want to be ahead from opening buzzer to closing buzzer.
I have a bad feeling we're in for a let down game. After two big wins against the preseason top two teams they could very well stumble come sunday. I hope I'm wrong and it's just the nasty little bug I have messing with me.

NO STUMBLES ALLOWED. Surely the coaches have thought of this possibility and will keep in their heads and not permit them to have a let down.
Here's the deal. Let's look at last game. Was any of us having doubts that we were going to open the 2nd half with our best run of the Season thus far against Illinois State? Yikes!!! The Redbird's are very tough, had us on the ropes the 1st half, have a legitmate shot at the Valley Title, made a lucky shot that was about 1/10 of a second late counting to end the half, and we still found a way to win.
Evansville has several returning starters from a team that took last place last year. They will not be a cake walk. HCGM knows very well that our young guns can't take any Valley game lightly. Thus, the Shocks will maintain their intensity and I hope their execution and efforts from these nice wins and sweep the Purple Aces with a "full house", a "Royal Flush", and a "stacked deck."
