I think my area does a pretty good job of when and when not to stand. I haven't heard any complaints when I jump up out of my seat. Not yet anyway.
Sure you don't mean Sect 115? I have a guy that gets way, way too intense. Everything is "OH COME ON!" We will inbound the ball and he instantly starts yelling "GET UP THE COURT!" He drives me nuts.

Anyways, one of the few pros of my top row seat is I can sit, stand, pace, and do whatever. When I steal seats up front I hate feeling like I have to sit down.

I've never fully understood the fans at the Chuck. On one hand we will pack the house for a team with no wins in the conference. The old folks are out there. They make their donations. They buy the tickets. So forth and so on.

But they can't be bothered to put on the free tshirt or just wear black in the first place?

    That bothers me.
Sounds just like the guy in 102 about row 16 or 17. Yells constantly and nearly always shows his ignorance of the game. Oh well, at least he's loud and he cares.

Have one of those dunderheaded fans in my section that sits on the top row, about three rows behind me. Almost every foul called on WSU is a "You suck" comment VERY LOUD (like the refs are going to hear him from the top row with the crowd yelling). This is yelled, not once, not twice, but at least three or more times each foul (or no call as the case may be). He is either not a season ticket holder or shares the seats with someone else because I don't have to put up with it every game and until this game never looked back to see who was making the noise (believe me you know it's the same guy just by his voice). All this time I thought it was some young person because of the sound of the voice. Well, I looked this game and it's a white-haired dude with a big mouth. And believe me, he is no great fountain of basketball knowledge. Don't want him to not come to games, but do wish he would select another section to sit in. You know -- spread the wealth a little. My ear drums can take only so much.

Just helpin' you out my man. Everybody smiles today. :yahoo:
I WAS sitting beside a 20-year-old coed. She mysteriously disappeared shortly before Alma Mater and I ended up with my arm around her boyfriend.

I should probably add that I was the first person in that row. The seating arrangement was the student's choice, not mine.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

We also have issues with this as well. We've sat one row in front of an older couple ever since the arena was redone. I would personally stand for most of the game. I'm pretty obnoxious. But out of respect for them I have tempered myself. We pretty much only stand when everyone in front of us stands and we have to stand to see. I love the way the students stand the entire game. But I figure - God willing - I'll be one of those 90 year old fans still going to games and I'll hope for the same kind of consideration.

I'm 62 years old and rise to my feet on what I consider to be appropriate situations: great or timely score; horrible officiating call; good official call after a series of terrible calls ("jeering"); beginning of timeout when Shockers have done well; beginning of each half; end of half to thank Shocker players; to "jeer" or "heckle" opposing coach. Otherwise I prefer to sit. Ask my wid\fe, I can and do yell just as loud when I am sitting as when I am standing. Somehow in my physique, the noise usually comes out the mouth rather than the other end.

Hey...wait a minute. I sit in 102 row 16. I yell, but I know the game very well-thank you very much. Not sure what you mean by showing ignorance of the game - I have been attending Shocker games since I was old enough to walk. I stood and yelled when they were good AND when they were bad. Let people show their passion and don't be so critical.

                      MikeShox,

I just happen to know the person in section 102 row 16 that you are eluding to and I know for a fact, that this person bleeds black and gold and has a tremendous passion and knowledge of the game. I am not sure what you meant by ignorance either. If you knew this person as well as I do then you would have thought carefully before using the word "ignorance." This person wants so badly to see this team succeed and I think it shows.

WHOA .. hold on now. I was testing the waters to see how other feel about standing, but let's show some civility and not start calling other fans out. First off, EVERYONE gets annoyed eventually by _something_ that other people in the area do -- and believe me some people are annoyed by you too. For me, it's when I start passing gas due to that last burrito at Margarita's -- I'm just saying.

I strongly urge all posters in this thread to edit their posts and remove references that could be isolating individuals -- that's not the spirit of WSU and it's certainly not the purpose of this thread.

If the posters don't do it, I would please ask that the forum admins x-out references to seating areas that could be isolating individuals.

A great philosopher once said: "Hell is other people". There is some truth in that but I think that people should stand up intermittently to correspond with important and successful plays and periodically for appreciation. Maybe not constantly except for the students: BUT in a close game for must stops on D or must baskets on O, all bets are off and everyone needs to get off their tush and will the Shocks to victory.....to borrow from FSF, another great philosopher, CAN YOU DIG THAT!!!!!!
