Too bad his play didn't. Had he become a Shocker and had his play been even close, it would have been a wierd experience to watch him in Shocker uniform.

But his body doesn't even come close to resembling Antoine's.

Hey Royal...can we add a dead horse corral thread...somewhere where those who enjoy that sort of thing can go eat hay, smell like manure, and be happy in that that makes them happy.

Bowles was looking to go anywhere but WSU when Turg was still here. He was never going to show up ion Wichita, so where he ended up doesn't matter.

All Turg got from Bowles for 2 years was tying up a scholarship that could have gone to a more productive player. I suspect the same thing would have happened had Bowles attended WSU, which was never going to happen.

When WSU was recruiting Bowles and we had videos of his HS games, he was great around the hoop, but that was it. He didn't hustle down the court and didn't appear to put out a lot of effort other than when he was around the hoop with the ball.

I'm going to guess that attitude continued, which led to his desire to play "closer to home". Bowles is not the first and won't be the last HS player to overvalue his abilities and underestimate the amount of work required at the D1 level.

I'm glad he didn't show up at WSU.

I forget which player we got when Bowles didn't come here. Was it Ellis?

There were so many defections: That guard from Maryland, Ogirri, Bowles, and Sampay. Ejike Hart and EO were academic casualties, and not to forget the passing of Guy. From that group of no-show we got Griz, Ellis, and Hawkins.

Hey, does anybody think that Bowles, Sampay, Hart, EO, and Guy not comming last year combined with the defection of Chris Brown and Butler leaving has made it slightly difficult for us in the post. Griz hurt his knee early last year as well. That is almost 5 years worth of post players that were unable to contribute LAST YEAR. Scary!

In case anybody wants to know, Hart is averaging 3 points and 5 rebounds for New Orleans. He starts most of the time.

Still does not seem right that Turg would take a WSU commitment with him...that was bad form

Technically MT did not take a WSU commitment with him. MT left for aTm with Bowles still signed at WSU. WSU released him from his LOI and asked to go to aTm even though he was told that he likely would not get much playing time. At that point he was not coming here and we did not want him if he didn't want to be here. He was not the level of player he thought he was and did not get the playing time there but once he was released from WSU it really didn't matter where he signed.

I don't think he was qualified academically either, until after WSU released him from his LOI.

I was a big MT fan and supporter but, on the Bowles issue, I said from jump street that he was seriously damaging his reputation with WSU fans by taking Bowles. I am far from the camp that thinks that he meant to damage WSU, or did that out spite, etc. And it probably is true that Bowles wasn't coming here anyway, and that Shocker fans wouldn't have wanted him once he began to waver on his committment.

But it wasn't like AandM needed Bowles, they had a great front line. And now the guy is leaving without making any positive impact on the program. MT obviously made a lot of good decisions as our coach and did some nice things for WSU and its players after he left. This whole Bowles situation put a tarnish on his reputation that he just didn't have to have and gave many fans more reason to rip him.

I'd like to lay this at the feet of Spinelli, but Mark let it happen. It was a stupid move, that now looks even more stupid.

I'd say the juice definitely wasn't worth the squeeze for MT to tarnish his good rep over Bowles. I seriously would have thought it would have taken a much bigger talent than that for MT to risk his rep.

Remember MT's comment about Bowles during the last half of our last season with MT. Something to the effect that Mark was "dreaming about Bowles coming."

MT obvioulsy THOUGHT Bowles was a great talent. When he left for A&M he had a scholarship to give; hence when Bowles wanted out of his commit to WSU, Mark let him come to A&M (I am sure still thinking he was a great talent). But Bowles proved not to be the caliber of player MT wants NOW at A&M (because we all know you can recruit better at a BCS shcool  ). Once he had a chance to evaluate what he really had, I bet he decided he had better players (but Bowles was already there); thus Bowles sits on the bench. I feel a little sorry for the kid. I think his previous coach filled his head with the "you can do better than WSU" crap and he bought into it; thus wanting out of his commitment to WSU. When Mark left, Bowles had his chance. Now the kid has to start over somewhere else. Bad decisions all around.

It simply comes down to Turgeon did something that the vast majority of coaches refuse to do. That includes everyones favorites Bill Self and Huggy Bear who had the chance to bring/take much more talented recruits with them. Marshall also refused to do it even though it definitely could have helped us. And I'm glad he didn't.

I was fine with Turgeon until this decision.
