  • Shockers Commit to Community Involvement

“It’s tough because you’ve got to wake up early, and you want your rest after having a game the day or two before that,” Durley said about balancing basketball, school and community involvement like the morning at WCH. “But once you get there, you feed off the kids and their energy. It’s crazy how many people know me and know us as a team. They look up to Wichita State Shockers. It’s a good feeling to know somebody loves you as much as they do.”

"This December was the first time Wichita State’s Student Services department has collaborated with the men’s basketball team and the Wichita Children’s Home to make that day possible, but will likely not be the last. Labus said the response was so positive from both the men’s basketball team and the children at WCH that they will try to make their visit an annual event."

WICHITA, Kan.--Braving a chilly December morning with the following day's game against Bradley weighing on their minds, the Shocker men's basketball team took a break?and played some hoops.

      community involvement

Great story. These are great opportunities for our student athletes to mature off the court.

This is great all the way around. And it lets the players know they can be a leader off the court as well as on it.

It should bring home the message to the guys that, whether they want to be or not, they ARE role models. Hopefully, they will embrace the privilege and opprtunity. Of course, all we can expect from the young men is their best. They do that, then they will be good role models.
