That's why I said I love seeing how confident he plays.

But you did say he did a "very good job hitting his threes". Clearly, he didn't. 20%. I was just pointing out that while he was a significant factor, his production came at a cost - poor shooting and more TOs than assists.

He's a freshman and will have games like this. I have no problem with it. He'll continue to get better and I can't wait to see how good he gets!

I like the fact that Coach Marshall is giving Toure all the rope he wants,He is an obvious offensive talent who is being groomed as the leader. This kid has a chance to be very very special.Mark Turgeon would have never allowed Toure that much latitude and to me it points to a major difference between the conservetive MT and GM who will take more chances.

Yes, you have to give Murry a pass on a few things. Let him go a bit now, but lock him down on fundamentals next year. Keep him confident for 4 years and we can go places.

It's hard to get offensive rebounds if you shoot 100%. Toure gave us a chance to pick up those rebounds. ;-)

Nothing new here Royal. For the year, Murry has not shot that well - .368 FG and .315 3FG. However, like today, he was constantly a thorn in CU's side on both ends of the floor.

If one of our other 3pt threats can start taking some of the outside shooting pressure off Toure, he won't be taking as many. He also needs to learn a little Hannah trickery. There was at least 2 times today where he was closely guarded, did an up fake, got his man in the air, but side stepped him and took an off balanced shot. He shoots .756 from the line, so when he gets his man in the air that is that close to him, draw the foul. The great thing is, this and better shot selection will be continuing to happen for him, the team, and us for the next 3 1/2 years!!

I agree with Royal that FG attempts > points is not a good thing. You can't shut the door on him in fears of shaking his confidence. You also can't let him dictate the entire offense and let him do anything he wants. There's a median somewhere in there.

However, it has become very apparent that we have a guy that's gonna be needing a big trophy case in the next 4 years..

I predict # 23 (dressed in Black) will have a big day today which will help the strength of the Shocker Nation!!!!!!!!!!! Toure' Toure' Toure'---Go Shocks!!!

Reply #23 "quoted yesterday at 10:18 a.m. by FSF"

Toure' had 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, blocked 1 shot, and played tough D. Let's hope he gets the Freshman of the Year award. What a player and he is only a Freshman. He is a key player for our future. HCGM can recruit and we have more solid players coming next year!!!!!!!

I'm too young to remember, but my Dad (off and on Season Ticket holder over the last 30 years) says he sees Oscar Roberston every time he watches Tourre play. Obviously he doesn't quite light up a boxscore like Oscar, but he looks smooth and when he misses our bigs all have a high % putback opportunity. Tourre could of had 6 more assists yesterday if he would have called rim.

I pointed out TM's misses to my father and his threes early in the shotclock, but I got a simple reply that "I remember Carr, Cliff, and Aubrey making alot of mistakes as a freshman. I don't think Murry makes that many."

Don't get too eager to see that FoY trophy coming to Murry. Johnny Moran (UNI) and Kevin Dillard (SIU) are having some pretty salty seasons.

The MVC has a lot of good Fr this year.

UNI and SIU are likely to finish above WSU in conference standings, which will make it harder for Murry to get recognition.

If Murry were to finish something like 3rd in voting for FoY, there would be 3 years coming where Murry would want to prove the FoY voters wrong. That might work out better than if Murry got FoY.

That is an astute point made Aargh. The better the Shocks do from here, the better chance he might have. If Toure' keeps improving his skills each Season----
WOWWWWWWW!!!!!!! #23's game still reminds me some of Aubrey Sherrod. The Big O. comparison was quite a compliment. Oscar R. seemed to rarely miss back in the day while watching him play in the NBA.

Not saying that P'unk and Murry are ANYTHING alike...cause they are polar opposites as far as attitude. But, while FoY is a great honor...it doesn't mean they will be absolute studs for 4 years. P'unk isn't living up to his hype IMHO. I just want to see Murry keep improving...the accolades will come.

The cost was -11 points by my calculations. Luckily Ellis (+8.6) and Hannah (+8.9) made up for Murry cost in production.

Shockers had 7 players with positive "points created" and only 3 with negative (Durley -3.2, Murry and Hatch (-1.4)).

I understand that you have some secret formula for calculating "created" and "negative". The actual result (scoreboard) is that Murry played 34 minutes and the Shockers scored 16 more points than Creighton in that time. Durley played 26 minutes during which the Shockers outscored Creighton by 14. Ellis played 23 minutes and the Shockers outscored Creighton by 3 during his minutes. Only Hatch and Chamberlain were on the court with Creighton scoring more than the Shockers.

I think he will be on the MVC Freshman 1st team this year...and a chance to be on the 1st or 2d team all MVC each year thereafter...It's been a while since we had a player with the potential to average 18-20 points per game and he seems like that kind of offensive threat in the making

Your rational is flawed. Because if you continue with that rational then it is Murry fault that WSU since he leads in minutes per game.

The simple fact is Murry has to get better if they team is going to get better. He's shooting 38% from the field (only 35% from 3pt). His assist/to is 0.73. Those have to get better. And I fully expect they will.

The point is all players contribute to scoring in certain ways beyond just getting the glory because they scored the most points. Murry may have scored the most points, but Hannah, Clemente and Ellis contributed more.
