  • Toure Murry

MK brought this up on the pre-game show last night and thought it would be nice to look at the stats compared to Josh Young's freshmen season and get a measure as to what his success may be in this league.

    Murry vs. Young
    Points Advantage - Murry
    Murry: 10.9
    Young: 10.7
    FG Percentage Advantage - Young
    Murry: 36.7%
    Young: 38.8%
3 FG Percentage Advantage - Murry
    Murry: 32.5%
    Young: 32.4%
    FT Percentage Advantage - Young
    Murry: 75%
    Young: 77.2%
    Assists Advantage - Young
    Murry: 2.4
    Young: 2.5
    Rebounds Advantage - Murry
    Murry: 3.3
    Young: 2.3
    Blocks Advantage - Murry
    Murry: 0.4
    Young: 0.0
    Steals Advantage - Murry
    Murry: 1.3
    Young: 0.9

Toure is going to be one heck of a player. :D 8)

Thanks shocks02. I absolutely agree. We have to live with some typical freshman mistakes right now but I think Murry definitely has the potential to be a high level D1 Player before his career is over. Has the size, length, quickness, outside shooting potential, already will go to the rim fairly aggresively and is pretty solid defensively. Would like to see a 6'-4" guard pull down more rebounds but I think that will come.

Brauer was right about Murry, but not this year.

Murry is very likely to hit the top 10 Fr scoring numbers in WSU history - and WSU has had some fine Freshman players over the years.

And, as MK stressed, Josh Young finished the season really well so his numbers were much better at the end of the season than they were at this point in the season.

I loved it when Marshall yanked the starters early in the SIU game, except for Toure. He literally grabbed Murry, who thought he was also getting benched, and shoved him back out onto the floor. He said, in effect, "Toure, you're my guy." He also said something on the radio very close to that sentiment.

Marshall is 'coaching-up' Toure big-time and it will pay off.

I like what they are doing, the only thing I don't like is their sub .400 shootig percentage. That is Allen Iverson territory i.e., score a lot of points by jacking up tons of shots.

I love watching Toure' play. You can tell the coach believes in his ability and you can tell he's starting to understand where to be in the offense. His occasional air-ball jumpers make me chuckle because he can get on a roll shooting.

Once he learns to anticipate the defenses better and reduce a little really bad or lazy ball handling he'll be good. He can be a force in the league. With a bigger PG coming in and more consistent inside play from some of his temmates, he'll just get better.

Toure was absolutely fantastic in the Creighton game. During the first half, he seemed to always be exactly where he needed to be. He got in good position to break the Jays' press and did a very good job hitting his threes (in spite of a couple of quick ones he took). He took some PG load from Hannah, as it was clear that Creighton's defensive plan was to deny him the ball.

The thing that really impressed me was his defense, especially that of the team. He was fighting through screens and communicating well with his teammates to set up defensive switches and using his length to deny the drive. Picked up a couple of steals and a block, too.

He's got a bright future ahead of himself as a Shocker.

Don't hate on me too much, but can anyone else see Young and Murry in 2012, Going shot for shot in St. Louis for the Valley Championship?

Toure is a baller, and he got the best of Young and the BJ's today. Here's to it continuing over the next 6+ meetings as well!!

I get your point but I think the best or second best freshman is Kevin Dillard at SIU. Him and Toure' are both very alike in their styles.

They oughta play 'Secret Agent Man' when Toure gets the ball, because he is doing so much you don't even know till you check the stats at halftime or the end of the game.

Gives new meaning to 'Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee'.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but hee goes.

Toure did play a decent floor game today. His confidence is great to see out there.

But there are a couple of chinks in his armor today.

                            6-20 FG
                            2-10 3FG

More FG attempts than points is anything but a good shooting performance.

He played a fair amount at PG and had more turnovers than assists.

But 6 rebounds and 2 steals is nice. And I thought he played pretty good defense.

Royal, I can definitely see your cause for concern here.

However, guys aren't on fire every night and I'd rather see someone with a lot of confidence in their shot keep taking them. As Toure gets better more and more of those "missed shots" are going to become trips to the charity stripe.

We need guys who are going to take the big shots, and Toure is making more of them than he's missing. Which is a plus he has over the other quick-triggered two who's worn a Shocker jersey recently. (That kid was automatic from the FT line, though, I hope Murry gets to be 85%+ at some pointd).
