In the post game show, Marshall didn't think all those calls against Ellis were fouls.

      • The only reason there appeared to be contact on the last one was because Young threw his off arm into Aaron's chest creating all the contact. You could easily tell that from one of the camera angles which oddly enough was right over the shoulder of the calling official.

That's the only one I recall being too upset about.

        • I think this starting lineup gained some confidence in what they can do. Any small step toward gaining confidence now is a good thing.

If the starting lineup change carries over into practice and the players who are no longer starting start fighting for starting spots, that will be another plus.

Hawkins didn't seem to respond too well to not getting the start. It could take him some time to get over that, but Hatch seems to be the guy who gets the start at the 3 with his work and play. Hawk dug himself a bit of a hole.

Ellis was slow to start contributing last year and again this year. I think tonight was an encouraging sign that he will get untracked a bit earlier in the season than last year.

There are a lot of small steps that have to be made. Once that's done, I think this team can take some big steps. The big steps might take more than the rest of this season.

          • Dang Fever, you have really got some people irritated at you tonight! Don't get too bent out of shape, we knew this would be loss. This team may not break the 11 win mark from last season, so just prepare to forget the last two seasons as quickly as you can.

We've got the baseball team and the potential for it becoming one of our worst seaons ever to prepare for. :D It's right around the corner.

            • Stutz seemed slow on defense. I think that's why we didn't see him in the game anymore.

I got a vote of confidence in HCGM by the players he put on the floor and the players that he kept on the bench!

                • They played better, for a half. The defense and constantly getting lost on screens is high school-ish. Some can be blamed on inexperience; some can be blamed on lack of communicating.
The team I.Q. leaves a whole lot to be desired. Silly mistakes on basic defense coverage and even inbounding the ball is inexcusable. It just doesn't happen once - it's over and over.
From a player standpoint, the biggest let down though can be pointed squarely at one player - A.J. Hawkins. I don't know if he doesn't care, isn't interested or just happy to get it over and go home to his bride.
He is a total buzz kill when he enters the game. No emotion, no spark and mostly a total drag on any team momentum. He plays like he has been sitting for 5 years, not one.
For player who was going to be heavily counted on, he isn't bringing it and if it doesn't change soon, should just stay on the bench. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

                    • I don't think I've ever met anyone that enjoyed being an idiot until I started reading this board.

Why do people take pleasure in being idiots? Why do certain people take pleasure in rubbing a loss or tough performance in the faces of well meaning fans?

Is it because they never learned any manners?
They were beat up a lot when they were in grade school?
They are pathetic individuals that have nothing better to do with their time?
                      They are just plain idiots.
Or my opinion...all of the above?

I pointed that out in the thread. It was skimmed over.

Again, I don't bring realistic viewpoints to the table.

                            • First of all, the first half Shocker Team could very well be the Shocker team of the future. The future needs to be now, but the growing pains continued as we witnessed the second half. This team will come together and learn to win. But when will we play like the 1st half---the whole game? No answers but a road victory at Mo State could help immensly.

While we shot the rock accuratly the 1st half, it concerned me that most came from outside shots by our guards. If we would have not been turning the ball over so much, we had a chance to have a big lead that soon ended up only being 4 points at the half. We really never established an inside game tonight and Drake started hitting more shots the 2nd half. Our inbounds passes under our own basket resulted in at least 2 turnovers and trouble just getting the ball into play. The lineup change seemed to help.

Speaking of road games, the great news is we will Not lose them all as suggested by one poster. When the Shocks lose, I will always miss a prediction. However, ALL guarantees I have made have all come to past 100%. Thus, I will guarantee right now that the Shocks will NOT lose all road Valley League games this year. Count it!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

                              • That box score is pretty eye opening. 5 games into Valley play, we lose at Drake by only 5 while shooting 50% FG, 50% 3 pt, 89% FT, and out rebound the Dogs. The Catch: Ramon, AJ, Garrett, Kyles, and Chamberlain are all coming off the bench for a combined total of only 36 minutes, NO points, only 2 rebounds, NO assists, 7 turnovers, and 5 fouls. THAT I DID NOT EXPECT TO SEE!!
