we have no shooters and can't make free throws. JT is the best offensive weapon today. We need to keep pumping him the ball to open it up for others. Not sure why we can't hit a 3 to save our lives?

Only one direction to go and that is up because we are on the BOTTOM. It is not luck that teams shoot 60% against us our defense it BAD. That has to be it.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

second half needs to be a steady diet of 'offensive sets' (giving us credit to get proper spacing, etc) for Durley. SIU should double team since we cant make any outside shots.

            and, get a freaking rebound.

Entering conference play, our defense was the thing that was keeping us in games. Now since that has faded away, expect a lot of L's down the road. If we don't go on an incredible tear in the second half, I have no idea when we'll win a game.

Top 4 for sure though.. :good:

Ok - a little halftime discussion. What is so different between this team and Turgeon's team with Howard, Burns, and Kampman? Why were they relatively competitive and this team isn't? Maybe it deserves it own thread.

That team wasn't more athletic. Did they have a better basketball IQ? Better shooters? Did their coach put them in a better position to succeed by running a motion offense? I don't really know.

i wasnt in town at the time of Burns, etal frosh year but this team doesnt have any offensive continuity and is just awful fundamentally on box outs, free throws and jump shots.

I see this 2nd half as being a big determinant in the season. need to play hard, smart and together.

I meant to say when those 3 players were all freshmen.

And I'm not trying to start a Turgeon vs. Marshall contest. I really just don't see any difference in the talent level...and that old team was better.

Randy and Rob were really good shooters and Jamar was relentless. All 3 played really hard although Rob ended going into some weird funk toward the end of his career.
