The problem now is that a few of the teams I/we thought could finish below us entering league play have either over-achieved early or met expectations.
BU (4-0) - 2-0 on the road and a win vs. ISU red.
UNI (3-1) - 2-0 on the road, including CU.
UE (2-1) - Solid start (2-1) with a win over Drake. A win tonight over MSU puts them in a good spot.
DU (2-1) - Pretty much where they should be, sans the UE loss.
At this point I think we finish ahead of InSU and MSU for 8th overall. If we beat SIU tonight I might be willing to say 7th (I don't see SIU continuing their losing ways for long, but I could be wrong). I don't know how we finish above that unless we put things together and one of UE/UNI/DU collapse.
I'm still not sold on UNI, UE or DU. If UNI continues to shoot lights out then they'll do alright. Neither Drake or E'ville have done anything to really impress me. But neither have the Shox at this point... Then you never know what Bradley will do. I'm guessing they'll find a way to fall apart and make it interesting.
To add to my previous post. As I look over our schedule, here are the games I consider winnable (which may change after tonight):
SIU
at MSU
UE
DU
at InSU
MSU
UNI
InSU
That's 8 wins. As is always the case, there will be a few surprises. I expect we may win one we shouldn't and lose two we shouldn't, putting us at 7-11.
Over the past 6 seasons, 7 wins could put us anywhere from 6th to 9th. Most likely, it's a solid 7th.
Considering the records of WSU and SIU, we are not going to get one of the better Valley crews officiating the game. Be prepared for anything being called and anything not being called.
How does the MVC assign officials or "crews" to games? How far in advance are the assignments made? Do MVC officials work as singles, in pairs with a third single, or in crews of three?

A physician called into a radio show and said: "That's the definition of a stool sample."
I believe most games are assigned before the season begins. And I don't believe that the Valley assigns a set crew to work games together. They place three individuals together to work games. They could do just the one together and never see eachother again. Some may meet a time or two beyond and so forth. SR may have more difinitive answers if I'm wrong.
Valley Refs are assigned before the season, but they are moved around too. When I was in school, a set was assigned to work a certain game, but a day or so before they were sent somewhere else and a crew of "lesser" officials were brought in.
They leave certain guys doing the bigger games. Or at least used to.

Oh great, I can't wait for "Larry, Moe, and Curly". :(

I heard the Valley went to more Tues/Sun games so we could grab "better" officials that USUALLY do weds games elsewhere.
The Tues crew for our game vs ISU was Baywatch and 2 guys who's names escape me but you see em alot during BCS games.
Add to the fact that ISU choose NOT to take it to the hoop and basically stayed out beyond the 3 pt line and BU just didn't have to foul much.
FOr example I don't think Osiris had a dunk or took a foul shot all game....at least I don't recall one.
