The only fans complaining are the ones who think they are entitled to a top-25 tram every year and an MVC championship every year. Any team that can't provide that - and show consistent improvement isn't worthy of their support because of the self-importance they place on themselves.

We all want the players to give the best they can every game, but a lot of WSU's players haven't been around D1 ball long enough to understand what the best they can give means or apply it to their games.

If the players were performing to some fans expectations, we'd have 5 first-round lottery picks on the team. And they'd all go league after this season.
I felt this deserved a separate thread so as not to be buried in the garbage. Unfortunately, the very vocal minority (i.e. “here, here, look at me”, shock jock crowd) has the ability to paint the entire fan base as a bunch of fickle, whiny crybabies. I’ve always said the players should not peruse fan message boards. For one thing, they have no context regarding certain posters (i.e. the aforementioned vocal minority); if they did they would know what messages to take with a grain of salt or simply ignore all together. And if there are any players reading this and wonder who the vocal minority characters are then just wait for them to come out swinging in this post.

This reminds me of the comments attributed to Ramon's facebook entry....I don't use facebook so I am assuming the comments are factual and are indeed from him and not someone else.

I took some grief for calling out some fans in regards to volleyball....I'd wager it won't be the last time.

It seems to me that Ramon's comments bring up a question on a broader level...as fans, what is our responsibility?

To whine and ***** about who isn't doing what or to do whatever you can to encourage the kids and make the venue as tough as possible for the opposing team?

I know often times our fans are regarded as "diehards", "frenzied", "loyal" and "some of the best fans in the country".......

    I say, prove it.

    Act like it.

Stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution.

(What gives you a boost at work? A boss who tells you good job and pat on the back or the one that bitches at you and points out every time you do something wrong?)

Until you can say you are doing EVERYTHING you possibly can to make the program better, encourage our players to give more on the floor and thank them for their effort, and are giving whatever you can to financially help the program, consider looking inward instead of outward.

    Hold yourself accountable.

I agree completely. I'm really tired of people on this board that think they need to rub everyones faces in a loss. This team isn't bad. In fact they have shown some great capabilities. I was around in the 90's, and I would've killed for the performances that the Shox gave in Orlando back then. I know some fans on here are unrealistic, but the negative fans don't need to be butts when the team preforms badly. I say we all just stay supportive, maybe critical when needed. But don't cross the line.

Our responsibility is to respond in kind to the production we see on the floor. If we see bad, we talk badly. Any other reaction would incentivize the wrong behavior.

How do you think HCGM responds when he sees a poor performance?

I as well as many other fans have lauded the great support Shocker fans have shown during the lean times. I do so as part of a promotional package I "distribute" on this forum as well as others... If I may take my C0|db|00ded jacket off for a moment (this rarely happens) I will explain the reality of our situation.

Shocker fans supported our basketball program during the lean years because -listen closely- there was nothing else to do in this _ _ _ -forsaken town.

Does it really make good sense to have a full building when poo is being spattered on the basketball court?

A world where only loyal, kind, and understanding fans exist is idealistic and nice to think about, but is far from reality. *NEWS FLASH* Sports is entertainment, it isn't real-life.

If you take a look at those that espouse kindness, understanding, and restraint, it is usually because they are somehow connected to the program. DrWu is a fine example. Guys like Royal and his assistants also have chosen to remain "fair" as evidenced by the near light-speed reaction to the Shocker Administration's request to remove a post. Many who post on here do not speak what they feel. I know how this is because I was once fairly close to a coach and players. Everything I wanted to say publicly had to run through this "friendship" filter. It's not a bad thing, it is just that truly connected people must understand that unconnected people have the gift of freedom to say what they want on a message board... the connected have to bottle it up until they want to blow. While I may be connected as far as info goes, I try to stay as disconnected from Shocker staff as possible so I may remain honest in my postings. My readers do not deserve any less! ;-)

When Marshall gets angry because of a poor performance, I would make countless wagers on the idea that it's because he knows his players are better than their play shows. Otherwise, he wouldn't get so worked up over every game we play poorly in.

Cold, I hate your posts. You've been whining about every little thing. You're right, you're disconnected. Therefore, it's put up or shut up for you.

I can, though, respect that you think about what you say before you say it. The thing is, you're only going halfway with your thinking. Sure, there's poo splattered on the court, but you've got to learn to say, "it'll be all right because there's a janitor standing there getting ready to clean it up." You and the rest of the guys that are more... vocal... have got to understand that it's going to take more than a year or two for things to be satisfactory. That is, if satisfying you is even possible.

Cold...add me to the list of individuals that can't stand your posts either.

To those of you who have chosen not to respond to these negative posters for fear of adding fuel to the fire...I apologize. I just couldn't help myself.

I'm sure that cold is perfect in every aspect of his life and if he's not, he would love to have idiots posting about it hourly on this message board. Or if by chance he has kids...which I doubt he does...he would like his kids shortcomings bashed hourly on a message board like this.

One thing about our players...they didn't come here to try and hurt the program. They came here to try and help us win. So cold, go ahead and keep slamming the kids that are doing their best to put us back on the college basketball map. I sure they appreciate it all the negativity.
