This is what OU's coach had to say about their recent match-up with Gardner-Webb:

"We feel very fortunate to get this win," said Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel. "I thought Gardner-Webb was tremendous all afternoon long and I thought they played with a sense of urgency. They played like a team who was desperate and hungry for a win. We played like a team that just thought we had to show up."
Gardner-Webb led #5 Oklahoma with 2 1/2 minutes to play before finally succombing...

It's amazing that HCGM could be in the position he is in this short in his Shocker career, but, if he doesn't have the Shockers "desperate and hungry for a win" this Friday, people are going to seriously start scratching their heads over his methodology.

If we indeed lose, it might be a good idea to pull the plug on Shockernet for a few days...

To be honest, I feel really sorry for HCGM right now because this game is a no-win situation. Your average basketball fan in Wichita will not know how good Gardner-Webb is, so if we win it will be unappreciated. If we lose... it's going to look really really bad in the newspaper the following morning.

Personally, I am looking for a team this Friday that comes out with pride and a fierce competitive nature.

How good is Gardner-Webb? Just because they played OU close doesn't mean anything (case in point look at WSU and their close losses - translates into nothing). They are 1-5 that includes a loss against 287 Longwood. Their best win is against Radford (337).

We all know that on any give day, no matter how bad a team your playing is you can still get beat by them if they play with more heart/passion and get on a hot streak.

If WSU comes out with a passion for the game and play a full game they should win. If they come out and play with like they have did in the past games then G-webb will be in the game and then anything can happen.

Ummm... Gardner-Webb is NOT good. If we lose, the average fans will be right, we suck.

Gardner-Webb is 2-5 with an RPI of 133 we should not lose to them at home, no ifs, ands or buts about it! I realize RPI still doesn't mean a whole lot at this point, however it is getting to the point where it's making some since.

      They have losses to:
      Virginia Tech
      Longwood (RPI 297)
      Oklahoma
      South Carolina
      Liberty (RPI 126)

      Wins against:
      Virginia Wise (non D1)
      Radford (RPI 239)

Ummm... they gave an ACC team in Virginia Tech all they could handle before finally losing 62-65. Then they nearly upset the #5 team in the nation and they aren't very good?

RPI (even win/loss record) means absolutely nothing at this point in the year. The bottom line is, if G-W scores 4 more against Virginia Tech and 5 more against OU they would be receiving top-25 votes.

They have weapons, they have tools, they have drive, and they know how to walk into a hostile environment and punch an excellent team right in the mouth for 38 minutes.

We better be afraid, we better be VERY afraid...

They've played six out of their eight season games on the road, and they come into Wichita well rested (6 days).

What's even worse, I just realized they play K-State two days later. If G-W comes into our building and beats us and then goes up to Foot-and-Mouth-Disease-U and gets hammered, that will be VERY embarrassing...

HCGM calling this a must win is an understatement.

Everyone needs to get a grip, as many have logically stated: we are not going to be all that good this year, but good fortunes are on the horizon! This was a much worse situation (post Turg) than many of us realized! I know this is not good business for SN, but we need to chill out and be VERY PATIENT! :posterwsu: If we are having this discussion in two years, then yes we are hosed for years to come!

No, they wouldn't be getting votes...because of their losses to Longwood, Liberty and to a lesser extent South Carolina.

It is a sad state of affairs that we now have to worry about teams like a 1-5 Gardner Webb team beating us at home. A few years ago, we would be predicting 20 point wins, now we have to question our team's ability to win games like this - especially after the UMKC debacle.

                I miss 2006.

Virtually noone thought that Paul Miller would quietley develope into the best player in the MVC his senior year and give us the inside game that made everyone around him better...Garrett Stutz will do that for us in time...Maybe not this year but he is taller and farther along than Paul was ..as a redshirt freshman

I predict if we lose, some people might wanna consider adjusting their predictions of 4th place in the Valley.
                        Deuces Valley.
                        ... No really, deuces.

The same was said about a couple of other tall players which are no longer on the team. I wouldn't put much stock into it at this time.

Which tall players are you referring to? I don't recall any that anybody was saying that they were better than Paul Miller at similar points in their development. The only player with the height was Ryan Bradley and he never had the tools that Garrett has now and Paul developed a bit later on.

Exactly, what tools do you claim GS brings to the table? He isn't showing any of them in games......
