Oklahoma and USC on ESPN2 right now. So many empty seats. There's definitely no excuse for not showing up to watch the #6 team in the country!

It's in Texas, that's why. Everythin's bigg'r in Texas! Except the attendance.

Seriously, they do fill it when Texas and KU come to town. I also think the city of Lubbock uses it for events, too, although I could be wrong.
Why in the world would it fill up if KU came to town but be empty for UNC? Does TT have a penchant for watching borderlined top-25 teams? I'm fairly certain UNC would draw better than K-who.. lololol.

      P.S.

UNC would beat K-who by 45 if they played right now... LOL.

I was joking a little, as UNC would certainly draw better than WSU did (no disrespect --- UNC has a lot of bandwagon fans), but Tech fans simply don't care about basketball there. It takes KU's and UT's fans to help fill it up. The Tech fans also come out for those games because KU and UT are traditionally the best teams in the conference, and just like Koch Arena when SIU comes to town, Tech fans go to see the best teams play. But they don't sell out their best non-con games, regardless of who they are playing, and they certainly aren't turning out for Nebraska.

Everyone said UNC would kill us last year too, but we waxed them and went on to win the national title LOL! You're right we're a rebuilding team (that's ranked), and I think we'll go through some growing pains, but I hope we get Carolina in the Tournament because come March we're going to be darn good lololol

I'm in agreement to pretty much everything you've stated Indy except for the UNC point.

I'm almost positive, even during their little football run, that Tech would draw a huge crowd, if not sellout their place, if UNC came to town. That would rival if not be bigger than a KU game.

It's all a moot point anyways because UNC would never go to Lubbock.
          Deuces Valley.
          ... No really, deuces.

You're probably right, and exactly right with your last point. Put it this way: I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't sell out their arena for UNC. I've just seen too much apathy from their fans to ever think they could sell out that arena on their own, much less for game during football season.

But I'll admit I don't like Texas Tech or their arena very much. A recent history of KU's travels there would reveal why.

Funny on the sports radio today they were talking about KU not selling out or even comming close on OOC games. They said the fans expect a poor game and arent spending their money on them!
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

The sports radio station you were listening to has it's facts wrong, because we are selling all our tickets. But it is true we are not filling our seats. There has been a lot of discussion about this between KU fans, and the blame is going to season ticket holders staying home for blowout games and the rediculous electronic ticketing the students have to use. It's an issue that most of us aren't happy with, because there are plenty of students who would go to the games if they could get the tickets.

Our 120-something sellout streak is still healthy and intact. You can find the attendance figures on box scores to verify this.

It is a big deal for a BCS school to show up here, no big deal for a MVC bottom feeder to go to Lubbock.
That may be, but I would still pit our fan support against their's in a heartbeat. No comparison.

That's one of the few strengths of NOT having football. No divided fan base during this time of year.

If the Shockers were in the Big XII, WSU fans would easily support both football and basketball. Think of the disadvantage WSU has for being in the Valley. The nearest competitor is MSU and there is only one and perhaps two geographic rivals (Creighton and MSU).
That is all the more reason to give Shocker fans a pat-on-the-back for the great support of basketball, baseball, and even volleyball.
Imagine competing against KU, KSU, NU, OSU, OU. Perhaps we should take Iowa State's place in the Big XII and they can take ours in the Valley.

The support at WSU is very impressive by any standard. Even when we had football our basketball attendance did not suffer. And yes, I understand that the overall football attendance was poor.
I am not impressed with the student turnout however. It's better than when I went to WSU, but still sucks. I would say half of the student section is empty for the first 3 games. That's pathetic.

Sadly, the student body has a few problems. Some don't care, some are far too busy, and far too may of them are fans of the dirty birds up north.

And we also have a ton of students from the three ais: Dubai, Mumbai, and Shanghai...
Deep in the heart of couldn't give a crap about college basketball-land and I miss the SHOX.

Sadly I'll never happen but if we added Div I football I could see a bigger conference looking at us 8)
