  • TTU Attendance for WSU

I watched the TTU game in Vegas on some ESPN station. The TTU arena holds about 15,000. It appeared that there were only about 6,000 in attendance. I realize WSU is not rival, nor is there much historical significance between the two schools. However, a pretty poor showing of TTU fans at the game.

It just goes to show you how fortunate the Shockers are to play in front of an incredible hometown and vocal crowd when they play at Koch.

6k would be generous. There were lots of empty seats near the court. And plenty more the higher up. Sounded as good as a small town HS game around here.

Very poor showing by the Tech fans.

Just wait until next year--then they'll see what a REAL crowd is like. I have a hunch things will go quite differently for us at the Chuck.

I believe I heard the Red Raider's TV announcers say the attendance was 9,000 and something. They sounded proud of the amount. If I heard correct that has to include all sold tickets, not just numbers in the stands.

It is a big deal for a BCS school to show up here, no big deal for a MVC bottom feeder to go to Lubbock.

We've seen low attendance at football-heavy BCS schools before, IIRC.

Students are amped about football until after the bowls, don't start focusing on basketball until second semester, it was a mid-week game, and it is probably about the last week of regular classes. Many of these places rely on 60-80% capacity from students, OTOH, WSU attendance is more like 75-80% non-students.

I wonder what is "good" attendance for a non-conference game at a middle- to lower-tier Big 12 team for basketball? aTm drew only about 6900 for their most recent home game and their football team sucks this year.

You'll see low attendance during the semester break at a lot of these places, too.

Not making excuses - just observing and speculating. We're indeed lucky and good to have the support for basketball we get at WSU. Even in the very lean years, the arena was usually over half full.

It's not a surprise. Tech never has fans for hoops games, except when Texas, OU and KU come to town. That's how it is across most of the Big XII, though, except at KU, ISU and OSU, where the attendance is consistently strong. OU and UT boast strong attendance figures, but they never have full arenas unless a rival is in town. "This is footbaw cun-traay."

Who a team is playing and whether it is still technically football season are just excuses, and poor ones at that.

Has TTU ever had really good attendance?

                          yup

I believe my exact quote was "There was Koch Arena nearly filled to capacity on a 75 degree day as the young Shockers were playing lowley Flordia A&M." And I reallly don't care if football is going on either. As I said before, I've been in Allen Field House and Bramlage Coliseum for rivalry games. KU fans stand the whole time, but don't really seem to get into the game unless they need to. KSU.. haha, they have alot more students there for rivalry games, but I'm not going to sit hear and say that their crowd is better than ours. We don't have near the students packed into koch, but our games can get pretty loud.

While I understand what Shirley was saying it is also true that WSU has good attendance for all games not just BCS schools. WSU was predicted to finish 9th in the MVC and went to a BCS school. I am not sure that WSU would be a team that draws fans to TT. TT coming here would guarantee a sell out -v- a near sell out or sell out for Texas Pan American or Corpus Christi etc.

The difference though is that WSU gets near capacity for all games and TT does not.
