  • Coaches show 12/1

Did anyone catch the coaches show on the radio tonight? Unfortunately, I heard very little. GM did say he knew we were in the old spice tourney when he was hired as a coach. And he discussed with his latest recruits backing out of the tourney for now but they wanted to play in it.
Marge: The plant called and said that if you don't come in tomorrow, don't bother coming in Monday.
    Homer: WOOHOO! Four day weekend.

I can't say this with any certainty, but something gives me the feeling that if any recruit had wanted out of Old Spice, they may have been advised of the great opportunity for them at a Prep school.

I can't imagine Marshall wanting a player who didn't want that level of competition.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I listened to part of the show and someone can correct me if I'm off base here.

Coach wants players who think 'big'. He mentioned on the show that Garrett and Toure' talk about taking us to the final four. Although he doesn't like to compare WSU to Wintrop, he's getting players here that he couldn't get at Wintrop. He's recruiting some of the same players as the 'big boys' and wants 'hungry' players who set lofty goals. Schaus told Marshall last spring that they could get out of the Old Spice tournament if needed... coach visited with the current players and recruits to see their level of committment (and comfort in playing top notch programs this early) and it was unanomous that they not bail on the tournament despite the many, many problems the program faced last year. They came to WSU to play in these types of tournaments and were excited to play. If one of the players would have voted NO, IMO they wouldn't be on this team. I think this was a test from a crafty veteran coach confirming what kind of kids he had recruited.

One (of the MANY) things I love about Gregg is his no back down attitude.

Let me paraphrase again from the show (I was stuck in an unexpected meeting and was unable to listen or attend :-x ):

We want to play the best. To get better you have to challenge yourself, and you aren't going to do that playing patsies.

Say goodbye to the 8 game homestands highlighted by a Saturday night game with Longwood. If my numbers are correct, next year we are looking at around 13 non con games. Texas Tech, LSU, Pitt, Texas, TCU, another MWC team for starters...mix in a couple of playin games for the CBE and what are sure to be at least 1 or 2 more big boys and we should be well seasoned by the time the Valley arrives.

Bottom line is, Gregg believes he can win here and that's just what he is going to do or he is going to die trying.

I think this tournament did wonders for our team. You can see the condidence growing. Playing a tough schedule prepares us for Valley play and when our skills catch up to our confidence level it will leave no doubt in the selection committees minds come tournament time. 8) :posterwu:

We better be prepared for "winning ugly". Marshall has no fear for how bad the game "looks", no fear of using what's sometimes referred to as "junk" or "gimmick" defenses. Marshall puts no value on "style points".

                    Marshall puts value on wins.

He told us at the presser when he was hired that he was going to exploit the talents of the players and play in ways that minimized, disguised, or hid weaknesses. That's exactly what he did in Orlando.

I like the way Marshall uses the press. Opponents know it's coming, but don't know when. Marshall has a lot of ways of getting into opponents heads. He's starting to get the players that can play the way he wants to play.

The theory of tough D and boards is like the game SIU runs, except Marshall seems better at coaching and recruiting rebounding than SIU has shown.

There's another thing we're going to have to learn to accept. When the practice focus is on D and boards, offensive production doesn't get as much practice time and won't be as sharp as some fans might expect to see it.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

wow, if this years team made it to the final four i think a lot of WSU fans would die of a heart attack. I think some of these players need to think more realistically and just hope for a postseason berth. I'd be happy if this team made it to the NIT

Almost certain they are thinking junior/senior year type time frame. Glad to see you set attainable goals only in your life. That way people who actually want to accomplish something have one less person in the way. Its a goal it doesn't mean they know they will make it to a final four. come on!

You are an idiot, ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, ah ha ha ha ha. Three smiley faces alternate blinking black and white that you are being called an idiot and laughed at. A great link prank that loops repeatedly.
