  • Denzell Bowles

I was just perusing the aTm board and noticed a number of comments disparaging DB's conditioning and work ethic (which we knew was an issue). Even Turgeon seems dissatisfied with his conditioning. I think him not coming to WSU has probably worked out to our benefit.

My logic may be askew, but here's how I see it. DB not coming opened up a scholly for Mantas. Mantas graduating this year allowed us to get Jerome Hamilton. Obviously, we have no idea how well Hamilton will work out, but if he is a hard workier I suspect four years of Hamilton will end up being more valuable than four years of Bowles in Marshall's system.

You could also argue that DB not coming got us in with Orukpe. If EO gets here, his three years may be more valuable, as well.

A lot of subjectivity, I know. Thoughts?

I believe you're general logic is correct. It is certainly more reasoned than a butterfly farting in Tokyo causing a landslide in San Diego. IMHO.

Royal .... You are spot on with your assessment. I got the impresssion that DB was sort of 'full of himself', and therefore had a attitude problem, which, overall, would not have been good for the team.

Getting players with the 'right attitude' is paramount to building successful programs. I think things have worked out best for the Shox.

Hamilton plays flat out hard with energy very much like Ramon. Due to that I would guess he also will be a hard worker in practices and the weight room.

I also agree with what you said, but I wonder if Marshall could have molded him into the type of player he requires. There was a player who left the team this past spring because he couldn't deal with the type of work ethics that Marshall required.

From the thread 2-11-08 Coaches Show, I said:

Coach Marshall said that when he got the job there was a player still in the program that he worked with one time for 45 minutes and told him he was going to do another 45 minutes a couple of days later. This player said he wasn't going to be able to make the next workout, that he had some academic work he needed to take care of. Coach said that was something the player had been allowed to do in the past.

Coach told him that's not the way it's going to work. Coach basically said 2 hours of the week are for workouts with him and the player would have to take care of his academic work on the remaining 166 hours of the week. This player evidentally didn't agree and didn't stay with the program.

What about me farting in Wichita? If I fart towards mecca will it cause the Kaaba to implode?

i had happened to look up bowles recently too. Says hes 6'10 260! I thought when he committed here he was supposed to be an explosive player not an immovable object in the paint. does look like he isin very good condition.

                      Speaking of smells....

Speaking of smells, a friend who attended the Orlando tourney said that when they first walked into the arena that they smelled a strong odor of updahg. They know that smell from previous experience and are sure about it.... anyone else smell that?

I wasn't there. But if I had been, I'd have certainly recognized the unmistakable aroma of updahg.

If you are approaching the age of 40, you have to know updahg when you smell it.

That would explain it. I'm staring 40 right in the face.
