  • During halftime just now of the Gonzaga/Tennessee game (and I don't know which two commentators it was) they were discussing the Wichita State/Michigan State game when one commentator said to the other "Are you surprised by Wichita State?" The other one said "I think it has more to do with what Gregg Marshall is doing at Wichita State than it does with Michigan State not playing well."

These are not direct quotes. I am paraphrasing, but I think I got the meaning behind the words. Quite a compliment to Coach, his staff and the team.

We'll found out more about Michigan State next Wednesday when they take on #1 UNC in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge.

True. MSU will be at home, which will help.

The Shox are getting beat at the foul line because we have no inside offense to draw enough fouls to put us at the line, unlike what other teams like GU and MSU did to us.

Again, I'm glad we didn't get blown out, but I also do not believe in moral victories.
Well you and 'Fever don't understand the game, and you don't have a grasp of where the program is....

You both want to run before you walk, and if we can't compete, scratch that, beat a top 20 team then we just suck.

Has it occured to either of you that our best chance for a victory came in a game where possessions were kept to a minimum? Do you think that happened by chance or design?

We have all but started from scratch a division 1 basketball team trying to compete in a top 10 conference....pardon me if I feel like we just might be a hair ahead of schedule.

Do we have some shortcomings? We sure do...are we a top 20 team? No....Are we on the right track? I think so.

My guess.....my knowledge > your knowledge.

A few of you just complain to draw attention to yourselves....people start bitching about our volleyball team losing in the conference tournaments....they were 29-1...how perfect do they have to be to get an attaboy (or attagirl) from you? If the Shocks would have won this tournament, a few out there would have said our uniforms looked lousy and wondered why we didn't have more options.
When did I ever say that we were going to win against GU or MSU? In fact, I didn't think we would beat Siena. I'm simply pointing out that this team has no inside game. I understand playing two top twenty teams attributes to this, however, had we any sort of inside game, perhaps we could have won these two games against Top 20 teams?

GU and MSU gave us every opportunity to win. GU couldn't hit anything outside and they turned the ball over a lot. MSU couldn't hit free throws. We hung with these guys with no sort of inside game whatsoever.

We all know it is a whole lot easier to 'upset' high profile teams in November than it is later on in the year. GU and MSU tried to give us the wins, but our lack of inside D and inside O killed our chances.

So don't get on your soapbox with me and start preaching like your Dr. Naismith incarnate. I freakin' know and understand where our program is and appreciate the effort the team gave over the weekend. Again, I was pointing out an obvious and needed area of improvement.

                    • WSU went from the "only team in the field that won't sniff post-season play" to the team that had 40 game minutes of the ESPN guys saying WSU was hard working, never gave up, took the game to everybody, took a group of Fr and JuCo trfrs and gave really competitive games to any team we played, regardless of the opponent.

There's going to be a lot of national media keeping an eye on WSU after their showing in Orlando. The two big stories out of Orlando are Maryland beating MSU and WSU being consistently tough to beat.

"And this is the team that was picked to finish 9th in the Missouri Valley this year". I heard that a lot. It wasn't said as a put-down - it was a compliment to the way WSU contested every game.

                      • our lack of inside D and inside O killed our chances
                        .
Marshall has had one recruiting class with any real chance to land post players. There really weren't many left that Marshall had any shot at when he came to WSU.

Durley should be a 4, but Clemente is pretty well entrenched there. So, we've got a So playing out of position and a Fr playing post.

If we had an agile, athletic, 6'11", 265, Sr post player who can run a 4.5 40 that would have helped our chances. We don't have that.

But, without inside O or D, we somehow managed to give a top 20 team and a top 10 team all they wanted, and we beat a top-40 team. This is a rebuilding year. We're looking for progress. Not many teams in a total rebuilding year can play with the level of competition WSU played this weekend.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend some fans find it impossible to be thankful for what they have and have to look at what we don't have. There's no way to have what you guys want unless our previous coach would have left some monster post players in the program. It didn't happen. Get over it.

Again, I am pointing out an observation and fact. We lost because of no inside game. I am well aware of what has transpired from the past coaching regime, yada, yada, yada and I never believed we would beat GU or MSU so what do I need to get over?

                              • I suppose KC is right. Part of it might have to do with a 5-10 point guard trying to get the ball inside by having to throw over or around a 6-4 thug guarding him as well.
