  • Question for Shocker fans in the know re Garrett Stutz

How would you compare Garrett at this point re Paul Miller early in his time at WSU?

  • #2
Way ahead of Miller....he's a skyscraper and he Boards well...has a nice shot too. Did Miller dunk for the first two points of his career?

I concur - Garrett has such a nice soft touch - something Paul did develop - but #41 looks awesome for a true freshman.

The future is bright indeed, and #41 will be a big part of it for us.

I don't think any of us are in a position to answer that question for a number of reasons. Among them are the fact that we never saw Paul as a true freshman play at home, and more importantly, in the two games Garrett has played in he has been playing against undersized teams, so there are certain things we have very little clue about.

Garrett has certainly shown some good things (particularly on the offensive end), and also some areas where he needs improvement (particularly on the defensive end). We will need to get further into the season to do much comparison to Paul.

Another item of note about making such comparisons, is that comparisons now compare starting points not ending points. It won't be until later in his career (say at least by the end of his freshman year) that we can say a whole lot about how he compared to Paul in making improvement to his game, which Paul did to turn himself into a 2nd team all american.

Miller had a few dunks, coulda had a lot more if he had tried for them.

TMH is right. Paul played 2 games his true freshman season. So there will never truly be a good comparison between the two until later in Stutz's career.

Just for fun, it might be interesting to compare Paul's stats as a red-shirt soph to Stutz as a Frosh. Maybe those boxscores aren't available anymore.

This summer, I witnessed Paul Miller skin GS alive at a pick-up game. I never seen Paul play that well as a Shock other than the overtime win versus SIU which he had 30 points. However, in my opinion, Stutz will be a better all around player when it is all said and done. Hopefully, Stutz will finish as strong as Paul which was huge. Reply#11.

In Miller's RS Fr season (his second year), WSU fans were all over him for no hands and being soft on D. He even picked up the nickname Fifi.

I remember about midway through Miller's first full year, Kennedy said he could develop into a player that could dominate in the Valley. Many fans thought Kennedy was nuts.

Stutz is ahead of where Miller was going into his first full year. Miller made tremendous progress and development. That's what Stutz has to duplicate in his WSU career.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Stutz is a little taller and a better shooter at this juncture than Paul. If only Stutz gets as strong and rugged as Miller did his Senior year. The Tennessee Thumpers had Paul bleeding and he never backed down and we sent them home. There are some areas that Stutz has in common with Paul that I really like. First of all, they both are very coachable and 'class acts' both on and off the court. Next, they both have a great work ethic!!!!!!!
