  • I know nothing about the current controversy but I thought I'd stop by to say hello and wish the Shockers good luck this season and inform my good friend COLD that eight straight posts in a thread you create is an internet record ... Congrats! 8)

I think Cold owns the record for owning the most dubious records.

Nice of you to drop by MSN. Please do so more often. I wish the Salukis good luck as well.. but I have a feeling they aren't gonna need that much with the NKOTB going on tour..

Thanks for the support but don't be too hard on Royal. He is being tugged in many directions and has a difficult task of trying to please everyone.

              • Did Coach Marshall fail to enforce his own rules about closed practices?

If Coach Marshall failed consistently to enforce his own rules about closed practices, has he tacitly changed the practices to one of the following?

                1. Semi-closed
                2. Semi-open
                3. Open

So, if any of the above is true, then Cold can hardly be blamed for attending a practice.

I believe it is illogical to say that Cold may observe, but not speak of his observations, because the practices were at one time described as closed. It is clear to me that Cold did not observe a closed practice.

From Coach Marshall's perspective, I suspect the only revealing and objectionable aspect of the Cold's post is Cold's description of Coach Marshall's behavior.

While Coach Marshall's alleged behavior is not uncommon in the coaching profession, coaches prefer that their behavior is not made known to the general public.

While Royal has established general guidelines for post content, it is impossible for those guidelines to cover all post content possibilities. From time to time, he may choose to make new rules or modify old rules. In short, he is the only one, who has power over the rules.

I am surprised the University asked Royal to take Cold's post down. It seems beneath them and somewhat petty. I am not surprised Royal acceded to its request. I suspect Royal has little interest in having a conflict of interest with the University. Cold's post may well have violated Royal's rules, but I suspect not. After all, Royal did not take the post down until after the University objected.

I have limited knowledge of the rules. I am mindful of the "don't cuss" rule and that is about the extent of my rule knowledge.

On balance, I believe the length and breadth of this thread has more to do with Cold's colorful personality that some report indiscretion and rule violation by Cold.

For what it is worth, I found Cold's post as acceptable. It was interesting. Nevertheless, I can understand the objections of others.

This is not a black and white issue.

At the risk of offending those, who abhor the mention of politics in a sports forum, this whole matter might be described as a tempest in a teapot.

I'll admit, when I found the post that Cold made I thought "hmm, that seems like a lot of information..." However, I think it's a bit of overkill that you have that type of situation where information is that controlled. Now I don't think that the original post made was one that disclosed what is normally thought of as proprietary information. Normally I thought observations of coaches were the type of things journalists would beg to gain access for and get.

I just don't get what was over the line about it, IMO. I can understand why Royal would delete... as RDR noted, it's not in his interest to pick a fight with the WSU administration.

If Cold had said, "Marshall can be brutal when players don't execute what he's teaching", the thread might have stayed. Cold used "Marshall is demeaning" instead.

The original post was filled with buzzwords that put a very negative spin on Marshall and his staff. The original post was filled with negative implications about how Marshall treats his players. It was stated as admiration, but the words used were so negative that it looked like a direct attack on Marshall.

The post was from a person who has already questioned Marshall's ability to coach at the MVC level. Marshall hasn't demonstrated his ability to coach at the MVC level, but most WSU fans are willing to give Marshall a chance to recruit and coach a team with more than 8 healthy available players before we crucify him.

                            • CB's post did not violate a rule. If it did it would have been removed immediately AND he probably would have been reprimanded or banned.

Once it was determined that the practice was closed and CB was not an invited guest, I removed it. The reason is because I have chosen to respect the wishes of the coaching staff that only those properly invited should be privy to what happens there.

Let me state it clearly, and this will be the final word. The post was not removed for it's content.

I think this has been discussed enough. I would like to add that the guidelines spell out how anyone with a grievance for how this board is moderated should file it. So far, not one single person has followed it.
