Hey, I'm not talking about letting trolls run wild, but if a person has information or opinions to share, it won't be run through the Shocker Administration Staff to see if it is allowable. That happens continually on here...

This is a very clean, HIGHLY-managed, peaceful site that I think misses out on some of the fun that less regulated sites enjoy. When ValleyTalk used to rock it was like a Shockernet 2 and it was a lot of fun. Especially when Royal stepped down as admin!!! ;-) :D ;-) :D

I like a fair amount of starch in my dress shirts, but when I want to dress down I really dress down.. :good:
Like I said, I'd be willing to help with VERY light moderator duties strictly for a front-row seat for the drama.

You've got a good idea here, but I really don't think it would ever pan out. You'd need something BIG to start to compete with ShockerNet...
Again, this isn't a competition, just another forum for fans to check out. People have talked about the Shockers needing a Rivals forum. Is that still a need?

A well-financed, professional, easy-to-use forum will work but it will take time and people contributing to it. I'm sure that there are tons of K-State and KU fans that post on several team forums.

More ACTIVE forums with people talking about the Shockers is a good thing. And a place for me, and others like me, to safely "spread our wings" doesn't sound too bad either..

      It's called Kansas.com

      Good post, by the way...
      OMG that place is terrible.

I'm just curious what Royal's feelings are right now..

Cold, you take enough time out of your day to come here and share us your thoughts and feelings. That's about the same amount of time you'd need to run a 'loose, lightly managed' forum of your own. Please spare us with the "I have a life" speeches.

I'd say go for it. I predict it will have the same success rate as the forum created by a Saluki fan to counter Valleytalk: http://www.mvctalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6.

A site that would be under the Rivals/Scout umbrella would have many restrictions as those sites normally have people with closer connections to the administration in order to get info and talk to the kids. Now, people do pay the subscription for access to some inside info but they still keep things controlled in order to continue having a good relationship with the school.

Personally, I'd love to see SN join one of those two sites. And if one of those two sites get a Shocker forum and a writer or two to provide the info on the team and/or recruiting I'll be one of the first in line. But with how I'm reading your comments about how your site would be run, it wouldn't stand a chance with one of the recruiting networks.

I think a separate forum for Cold and others like him is an excellent idea. I think this fine forum has survived when others have failed because of the philosophy noted by Royal in his thread explaining the deleted post. But it would be fine with me if those who don't share that opinion chose to post elsewhere.

I wondered how long it would take for Gregg to close practices. Now we know. I would guess the next thing that will happen is his becoming much more selective in information he provides to fans in public, for fear that it would be repeated on an internet forum.

There are some things that simply shouldn't be posted.

That's not true. It takes a TON of time posting everyday to help keep a forum alive and informative enough to keep people coming back. The first couple years of a forum's existence requires a very large amount of work from the "founders".

I would really prefer to not take on the responsibility of creating a legitimate "2nd Shockernet". I would much prefer it be done by somebody else so I could just pop in a few times a week and pop off.. so to speak. Perhaps Royal has a dual personality... ;-)

It's not a power thing to me, it just has become readily apparent that there needs to be more than one avenue for fans to speak about the team they love. When you only have one source (ala Monopoly) providing the service, limitations of service are put in place that could (or would) normally not be put in place when competition is allowed.

I don't know if you read the original deleted thread, but from your implications I would guess not. There was nothing "juicy" in my thread other than a few descriptions of HCGM's intensity and confrontational coaching style. This is not news. There were no "secret plays" revealed and there were several people in the arena during the practice as well so I wasn't the only one peeking in. Plus, all the curtains were open (they usually aren't). If the curtains are closed I do not peek in. So coach, close the curtains...

That's good to know and thanks for the info. My intentions are certainly not to create another "extension" of the administration. Some of the best "leaked news" comes from sports forums that don't have particularly good relationships with the administration.

CB walked uninvited into a closed practice, went public with his observations and is now upset that those he disrespected voiced their objections to me and I agreed with those objections. Rather than offer an apology for making a mistake, CB chooses instead to blame those whose rules he broke.

As for what I think about another forum, we don't have the fanbase of a KSU or KU. We won't have multiple boards with the current traffic we have here. But high traffic isn't the goal, as far as I'm concerned. Quality discussion and the development of a community is, which is evidenced by the fundraising efforts for the basketball and baseball facilities as well as the memorial for Guy Alang-Ntang.

That said, I'm not going to discourage anyone from doing what they want to do on their own.

Very well put Royal! I totally agree with you. Also, while I enjoy reading CB's posts I won't be sad if he leaves to start his own endeavor. I would probably check his forum out too.

This is almost good enough to be in the fiction section.

CB went to pick up tickets and noticed that the curtains were not closed. Considering they are always closed during a Shocker practice, CB went to investigate. CB noticed that many others were watching the practice so CB decided to stay awhile. The entire coaching staff saw CB and did not ask CB to leave. CB then stayed.

Spinning fiction is easier when one doesn't have the original post to dispel said fiction. When I say fiction I am particularly referring to the part about disrespect. What is disrespectful about telling the truth? What is disrespectful about saying that HCGM was shockingly aggressive and berating? The sad thing is that he or those that he is affiliated with would make the effort to snuff something like this out on a PUBLIC basketball forum. What is sadder is how this reflects on his confidence regarding his conduct. What is sadder still is how excited you must have gotten to get an email from THE ADMINISTRATION, that you totally forgot to use common sense before deleting the entire thread.

What happened? Where you enticed with a private tour of the men's locker-room and the Champion's Club?

At some point you just have to stand up and defend the principles you speak so strongly off in the off-topic forum.

Nobody is talking about leaving. However, I'm sure I will eventually be banned (again) for dissension.

I just believe there needs to be a board that doesn't bow to central planning. Also, there needs to be a board where young posters feel comfortable. So many times a Shocker student comes in here and posts an interesting tidbit of information only to be scolded, humiliated, and have his/her thread deleted. That is just silly in a college sports forum.

The fact that Paul Suellentrop posted in his blog that he was counting the hours till my thread was deleted shows just how tightly wrapped up this forum is... It honestly makes me sad.

If your account is accurate, then I withdraw the word "disrespected". The more significant point, however, was the one you failed to address.

How about just saying "my bad" and moving on?

                                Cold

Cold seems obsessed with his own voice. Maybe he needs to move to DC, where that sort of thing goes over well.

As far "his" alternative forum -- administered, of course, by someone else because he doesn't have the time notwithstanding his 2100+ posts (most of which seem to have come grinding his axes about Turgeon, football, or his own oppression) -- fine. Go for it, Big Guy, and take your next 2100 posts with you.
