Elgin did not address this, but there was a buzz around the halls that Valley officials might return to the league scheduling initiative instituted a few years ago. It required each school’s non-conference opponents to average an RPI rank of 150 or better. As MVC schools bettered their schedules the league backed off. But there’s a concern some programs are getting a little lax with their schedules—even as everyone acknowledges how difficult scheduling is.
Some Valley members have scheduled pretty well. Wichita State, for example, will play Georgetown and one of the following—Maryland, Michigan State, Oklahoma State or Gonzaga—in an exempt tournament. The Shocks also travel to Texas Tech and TCU.
