Darnell certainly seems like a stand up young man and he should be extremely proud of his degree. It will be worth more in both real and assumed dollars than basketball.

Aargh nailed it. The resentment stems from the holier than thou attitude of fans and admins at a school that has historically cheated it's collective asses off yet cries foul at WSU any and every chance they get. This is without even addressing the AD issue or the funding issue.

That being said, anyone that thinks for 1 nanosecond that the kid didn't get cash from the guy (and others) is simply fooling themselves. It goes on at many if not most schools everywhere in one form or another. It has gone on in the past here. I personally witnessed it in Lawrence. It happens, it will continue to happen and the NCAA will do nothing to stop, especially and almost exclusively at the big schools that they get rich with.

At least I can feel comfortable that it is not going on currently at this school and on the remote chance it is, it is not because the staff isn't making every effort to curtail it.

Certainly I learned that while I stated "for those who like to hear about young men who have learned to appreciate his blessings, you may want to read this", there were a number of others who prefer to hate who read it anyway. I gave you every opportunity to ignore it and not bother reading it. I did so because I am aware that there are quite a few of you out there.

I can cheer for other teams to beat KU all day long. It doesn't make me wish bad things for the players on a personal level. I grew up a "Yankee hater", but I still thought Mickey Mantle was one of the greatest players of all time and I had tremendoud respect for Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Bobby Richardson and others as well. I just didn't want them to win. I refuse to believe that belonging to one team makes you a worthless jerk while belonging to another team makes you an angel.

I've also learned over the years that there are numerous posts on here that I am not interested in, so I don't bother to read them. I guess I could always go ahead and read what I lack interest in and then take shots at the person who wrote it, but it just makes more sense to me to read those subjects that I'm interested in and leave the rest alone.

One of our beloved Shockers from years back came to town from the west coast in mid-winter without a jacket. An assistant provided him with an old jacket so he wouldn't freeze. Had this young man been a Jayhawk, you would have hated him for being a such a criminal.

Oh well, guess pettiness will always be a way of life for some.

I do not like the Jayhawks because they are arrogant. Thier fans are arrogant and pompass. I do not care if they win or lose and therefore do not care if they have a "really good, nice, sweet, kind hearted, young man who loves puppies and ice cream" on their team.

I sure don't want to come to the SHOCKER board and have some eliteist A-hole tell me I have to like, or care about him, or I am somehow small and narrow or "petty". Oh you are so complex because you posted a chickenhawk link on a SHOCKER board. That Nobel prize is all but yours!

Posting about other schools on a fan site is sort of like walking into a crowded bar and yelling at the top of your lungs, "Hey everybody, let's all go to <insert any other bar>. First drinks for everybody are on me".

There can be consequences and you need to be ready, willing, and able to handle those consequences.

Posting an inflammatory message like the one about the KU player being thankful for opportunities is a clear provocation and must be met with scorn and invective...that b*stard! who does he think he is!!!Consequences must be administered and punishment meted out. He played hard, got his degree, played well enough to get a guaranteed NBA contract, and then thanked the people who helped get him there. His family was so destitute growing up that when a family friend offered to drive him to KU games, I can't blame him for accepting. He paid is debt by sitting out games and paying back the value of the violations. EVERYONE makes mistakes -- especially when they're young and low on money.

I'll defend Darnell all day because he is not at all the monster some of you hope he is.
