Looks like the last ACT test was on June 14.

The next SAT is August 26 and ACT is September 13. I'm not sure if there is some other way to get him qualified with the Clearinghouse or not.

I know this has been asked before, but what exactly is required of EO? GED, ACT, SAT, certain core classes – what?

I assume that the approval of the NCAA Clearinghouse will take time so I am a little concerned about his progress.

Edit: I may have answered my own question:

GED + ACT for academic eligibility.

          Not sure about NCAA eligibility.

I'm not positive if anyone on here knows exactly what's required of him. (I'm sure at least one person may actually know) The NCAA is a funny thing though. Last I heard the people over at SCA were happy with Ehimen and pleased that he was farther along than expected. That may be the wrong term but they were pleased with where he stood academically.

Even though last year was a real mess in terms of depth, one thing that I learned about our coach is that he expects players to EARN their positions (except of course when you only have 7 or 9 guys to choose from) by their work in practice. I agree that Durley has picked up some good experience, but unless he shows the coaches that he's equally willing to put out good effort on defense as well as offense, he will never have a place in the starting line up.

With that said, I sincerely am optimistic that with all of the competition for playing time that JT will find his place, and will be a contributor in a big way down the stretch. HCGM's philosophy is obviously centered on DEFENSE. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have been in most of the games we played last year because we didn't have the offensive weapons then to make up for defensive lapses. We all know that while we did lose way too many games for our tastes, we were extremely close to being .500 or better with a few shots going in here and there. The games were close because of defense.

I don't think having the great depth that we're going to have will change that fact one bit. I also don't think coach will care if you're a senior, freshman or junior--it'll be all about hustle and smarts on both sides of the ball.

Marshall's words on this are: "We want to make the offensive player extremely uncomfortable every second of the game."
I agree with defensive effort but a good coach has to be flexible. Turgeon was fairly inflexible.

As far as testing, it should not be a problem as EO is 'highly intelligent' sources have relayed. The only problem would be getting him cleared through the NCAA clearing house.

I see Durley starting at Center going into the season, with EO quickly subbing in if Durley doesn't hold up his end defensively. EO may be raw offensively, but it doesn't take a whole of talent to do putbacks under the basket. Most of the time he would be scoring less than 4 feet from the basket which he can do.

The coach accents defense, and 4 games into the season, EO may be starting at Center, with Durley coming off the bench to sub in a the 4 or 5 spot. I think Ellis will relieve Clemente some at the 4, and Griskenas will relieve AJ at the 3 some. One of our strengths though will be our depth
and the ability to have players at multiple postions if needed. I think Stutz will get cleanup minutes at the 5 until he toughens up defensively. His minutes will depend on how fast he progresses for Div 1 ball.

If JT played good defense, then I'd love to see him start against a lot of Valley teams (because who could stop him on offense?) with short centers. I could see HCGM messing with SIU's heads; start JT and then bring in EO (or visa versa) or start JT at center and GS at PF.

Whatever HCGM decides is fine with me because it's his career on the line. If he starts JT, I won't assume the sky is falling. 8)

By "something tragic" I meant injury or another circumstance that prevented both of them taking the floor. I promise you at least one of them is going to contribute, a lot.

Snap, my only issue with your statement is Griz at the 3 replacing AJ. Marshall has said on a couple of occassions that he has trouble with the quickness of other SFs and is better suited to play PF for us. Of the two (Ellis/Griz), Ellis is more likely to play some SF. But he will also be playing some PF I would think as well. That gives us a bunch of guys trying to get minutes there. If others step up at PF and deserve PT, then I could see Ellis sliding down to play more SF to relieve AJ. On the other hand, I expect AJ to be playing a number of minutes.

Now we have seen the skill of HCGM the recruiter. Next we will see the skill of HCGM the coach. On paper this is one of the best recruiting classes we have seen in many years. Even better is we now have serious depth at every position. No longer just 3 players in the post and just one serious threat at PG.

I loved PJ and Matty B. but were we without those two? and then Matty B. went down for 10 games. Tallest starting post was 6' 6.75". Not good but that was all we were left at. HCGM did a good job last year even fielding a competitive team in the time he had last year. Then he lost the one player we could least afford to lose in Matty B.

When Matt came back we had lost almost all depth in every position and were even struggling to find players for practice and players were struggling in games because of that lack of depth in games.

Yes we are young and we lack D1 experience in many positions but we have HCGM and I think he will have us at lot better position than many are predicting at the end of the season.

HCGM doesn't see at this level!

I am curious to see who will actually back up AJ at SF this year. This is MY list in order of likliness:

                                Ellis
                                Gris
                                Murry
                                Kyles

Do remember that barring injury we are talking about 5-10 minutes a game of PT.
