  • What's A Successful Season

With the influx of young new talent I know the expectations at WSU are high this yr.As fans, how many wins would it take for you guys to say successful season.Personally ,I think we can be very good,I'm talking post season good, but that's me.What would do it for you?

A top 6 finish in the MVC race and a record above .500. I'm just trying to remember that while talented they are still young so I'm trying to temper some of my expectations until I see them in a competitive Div 1 game.

Griskenas was first-team JC AA. Clemente was 3rd-team JC AA. Neither one of those guys lit it up early in the season. Any time a team has to count on JuCos and Fr, it's not a good idea to have your expectations too high.

It might be easier for guards to go from JuCo to D1, but their opponents will be bigger, quicker and more athletic than they typically saw in JuCo. That's not an easy immediate adjustment.

Total players with D1 experience who have played even a minute with each other: Ellis, Clemente, Durley, Hatch, Griskenas. WSU returns a total of 24 points per game.

Avoiding the play-in round in St. Louis and finishing at or above .500 would be an achievement. Post-season isn't a real expectation. It's fine for fans to have that kind of confidence now, but don't get on the players or coaches if WSU doesn't get there.

While I generally agree, I would add that while post season play is not an expectation, it is a real possibility. A number of things would have to go right, but the Valley as a whole is fairly young, so a lot of teams are in the same boat as we are on that front.

          Call me crazy.

I am pretty sure we will be dancing.

I'm just not sure how long we get to dance.

A successful season at this point would be not playing on Thursday and finishing with a winning record. I hate to get too excited with so many new players but we've got a lot of talent and depth and many other Valley teams are in similar situations. It's possible that we could have a top 3 finish and dance. I'd love to at least get to the NIT this year.

Avoiding the play-in round would be a successful year.

Playing two games in St. Louis would be great.

Dancing with Crazy Ricky would be nothing short of fantabulous.

If we just won the last game of the season (i.e. NCAA or NIT or CBI), I would be happy. :D

Success to me is top four in the MVC and post season.

An OK season would be 5 - 8 in the MVC and above .500.

Success is beating Creighton. Unqualified success is beating Creighton twice. Best-case-scenario is EO gorilla-blocking a Stinnett shot into Dana Altman's face.

Eff all that! If Drake can come out of no where last year and had the season they did, I expect we can do the same.

I change my mind, I predicted we would finish 17-14 this year, I'm banking on a 25-6 showing.

My original prediction of 17 wins is still my opinion. If we was to win 20 and do some form of Post Season Play, I would not be shocked. Losing 3 solid Seniors, MB, PJ, and PT was a hit. However, from top to bottom, I like this squad better in terms of moving forward and winning more games.

RC should have a nice Senior year. He must be working hard on his shooting because his range has moved out to 15' and he is displaying leadership qualities. One thing about it is our big men will have 2 former Juco point guards on the court together alot that can feed them the rock in productive places. If our opponets dare pack it in on our bigs, our guards will make they pay by draining the 3.

Being serious for a moment, I think a key to success this year will be good passing on offense. If we pass to the open man and (mostly) avoid turnovers, I think we'll have a strong season. If not, it may be a long season.

Well if you look at last year WSU literally lost all the close games (less then 5 points).

The closest game WSU won was against Indiana St. by 5 at home. If the Marshall can improve the team ever so slightly over last year it will make a dramatic change in the record. Also a number of other MVC teams are going to be doing a bit of rebuilding. I'm hoping for a winning record at least.
