  • One of the elite

Frank Martin was on KCMO radio talking about Mike Beasley. He said he averaged 26 pts per game and 13 rebounds. He said very few ever do that in a season, making Beasley one of the elite of college basketball.

    I though 27.2 pts and 14.8 rebounds X

    Go Shockers! :posterwu: 8) 8) 8)
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Yeah but X got those numbers playing in the MVC, so cut those in half and you get what he would do in the Big 8 back in the day or Big 12 now. :D

Even in jest, DO NOT come on here and denigrate the X MAN.

        EVER.

        Thank you.

            Surely you jest.

The MVC was a different animal in 84-85.

X was drafted 4th overall in the 1985 NBA draft. Ahead of him at #3 was Benoit Benjamin of Creighton. Counting those two, there were 9 MVC players drafted in the first 3 rounds.

Wasn't X-man in the running for rookie of the year with M. Jordan? Or maybe my facts are getting distorted through the years......

I don't have his exact numbers, but as I recall the X-Man did pretty well against KU when playing in KC. I think Shox lost by 12 -15 points, but X was playing his normal elevated game.

Looks like you caught a few KC. Any worth keeping, I am a catch and release guy myself.

Reeled them in quick didn't I? Yeah, I'll throw them back in. They'll know better than to nibble on what I throw out next time. :)

Xavier was the only unanimous selection to the NBA All Rookie team. Patrick Ewing, who had been injured, was the second leading vote getter. MJ was already in the league.

Shocks were leading at halftime. Bogus third foul on X to start the half sent him to the bench. We lost the lead with X out and never got it back. He took Danny Manning to school.

If it were anybody but KC playing the devil's advocate---FSF would have gave them the ole 1-2 with my "Battle Of New Orleans" speech. That was before X, but we all know the "good guys" prevailed.

My Aunt Gertrude used to always say---"FSF---don't go crowing that you are better than other folk---because someday---you might have to face them in public and get humbled." As we consider the game above, the rest is history. :D
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Shockball, thanks for the info. I remember watching the game on TV. The X-Man was quite a player. I seem to recall that he fouled out and the Kemper crowd gave him a pretty good ovation.
I'm glad I got to see him play. We don't get to see many from that part of the country play as well as X. He was as close to an inimitable player as they come.
