I went to pick up games today at the Chuck. Saw some pretty decent ball and a couple shockernetters (What's up Snapshot9). For any posters that were there, feel free to chime in and correct me if you know I misidentified people. Those in attendance were Clemente, Durley, Paul Miller, Orupke, Stutz, Hannah, Chamberlain, Kyles, Cooz, Jay Cousinard, Murray, and an unknown guy. Here is my analysis of what I saw today.
Clemente - solid as always. I have a strong feeling that he will be the senior leader that we will need this year. He did a great job getting the guys together today. Couple good tip dunks.
Durley - started out kind of lazy but picked it up. Stayed mostly on the outside. Looked a little soft, like maybe the weight room hasn't kicked in yet. Did have a pretty impressive block on an Orupke dunk.
Miller - was a beast. Deserves to get a look somewhere.
Orupke - is definitely an offensive project but has a sweet looking shot. Inside he is weak and a bit tentative. I have no doubt he will be a defensive presence. He blocked/redirected 75% of the shots that came his way. Runs very well and is aggressive to the boards.
Stutz - not impressive today. I thought he forced way to much offensively and looked a step and a half slow. Just didn't have an overall great day. I am confident he will be much better but he was the biggest disappointment for me today.
Hannah/Chamberlain - WOW. They got in the same category because they were great in my opinion. They both shot the ball very well and showed a nice stroke. They ran the team and played great D. Very impressive.
Kyles - after I figured out which one he was I liked him. He didn't do anything that was overly impressive but I think he will be pretty good. He was in the red shorts right?
Brothers Cooz - played well. Cooz is a beast and I thought Jay looked better today than I ever saw at Evansville. Good pick up for Ryan Martin and the UMKC squad.
Murray/Unknown guy - not real sure about this. There were two guys and I am not quite sure which one he was. There was a guy in silver shorts and a guy with burgandy shorts. I thought he was the one in silver. They both played well. I will save my analysis until I figure out who is who.
Last tidbit - As I was getting ready to watch, Coach Marshall walked by me. He went in the hallway and got a phone call. As I tried to listen, I heard him offer a sholarship to a potential recruit. He said yes. Marshall said that he recruit had "made his night" and if "he didn't come in and start, I'll be pissed." It is a great day to be a Shocker!!!!!!
