  • SIU to play in Coaches v. Cancer Tournament

Good news for SIU and the Valley.

SIU will be playing in the Coaches v Cancer Tournament this year and will be one of four host schools. The four hosts are UCLA, Michigan, Duke and SIU. Each host will hold a four team tournament on their campus with the winners advancing to Madison Square Garden.

No press release on this yet, but according to SalukiTalk it's a done deal. If so this will be some more good exposure for the Valley when you consider this tournament and the Old Spice Classic that WSU is playing in.

They better hope Gardner Webb isn't invited to play in this again LOL. 8)

How did SIU and the MVC pull that one off? I can see the others hosting, but SIU? That's not meant in a bad way, but I am surprised that a Big 12 school isn't hosting it instead.

Great exposure and I hope they don't choke in it.

That's the big thing there. They have quite a recruiting class coming in but do they return enough to start out well enough to represent. It's the same question we have with Orlando except they're hosting.

Who are the other 12 teams invited to play in these 4 team tournaments?

I haven't seen anything on this but they select 16 teams from 16 different conferences. SIU will probably have to beat at least one pretty good team to make it to New York.
