  • Expectations for 2008-9?

The baseball team just finished in the top 16 and we're disappointed that we will miss the CWS this year. We (OK, I) expect another regional title and a trip to Omaha next year (depending on who we play in the regional and superregional). I expect a MVC title in volleyball and at least one win in the NCAA tourney. I expect no losses in football. I hope for a decent women's basketball team.

What are our expectations for men's basketball in 2008-9? A Sweet 16 (like baseball)? A MVC title? Finish sixth or better in the MVC?
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I expect them to play hard and represent WSU in a classy and
        mature manner
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

          Pretty good question there, Spango.

Men's Basketball - win 20+ games and go to Big Dance.

Women's Basketball - go 0.500 and reduce turnovers from infinity per game to 15-16 per game. There is a new Sheriff in town. There is not going to be any more B.S. in the locker room or on the court. "If you can't play, you can't stay."

Volleyball - More of the same, but better.

Ah, the optimism of the unknown....the alter of the sports fan!

Volleyball. Top 2 regular season, post season champs. In our own backyard I will accept nothing less.

            Football undefeated.

Baseball......no idea although at this point I am prepared for a really, really down season. A return to the NCAAs, to me, would be unrealistic at this point. Of course, I expected a down year this season and was happily dead wrong.

Women's basketball....immediate improvement and I love RDRs infinity per game turnover reference. Out of the basement for sure and 09-10 should be top half, minimum.

Men's basketball.......the flagship......young and dumb...so many possibilities.....out of the playin game sounds good to me. However if it turns out we end up being pretty good, don't say I didn't tell you.....

09-10 we are going to be a real handful.

Can't add much to what I've read so far, I'll add some regarding the less visible sports (I do not consider VB "less" visible anymore).

Maintain / re-establish dominance in both men's and women's CC that we enjoyed 2-3 years ago.

At least 1 bowling crown between men's and women's bowling.

Move up in the pack in Track & Field, and win Valley softball championship.

              Maintain golf standings.

Women's basketball? No place to go but up there.

all of the above, in addition to the comments by RDR and WuDrWu, should add up to returning the All Sports Trophy to WSU.

I think we may struggle in the begining of the year. But by the end i think we will be very much improved, with a 5th or 6th place finish, and we will be that team nobody wants to play in St louis.

I agree with the exception of baseball. I think many may be surprised but I wont be one of them when the kids coming in and the guys we bring back keep the train rolling. I look forward to yet another 40 win season. I think we will be back in the NCAA tourny and I think we will win the conference as well as the conference tourny.

I'm with the good Dr. Having the Men skip the play-in round would be nice.

We should be pretty tough in 09-10 and beyond. (Hope it happens faster!)

I'm afraid the baseball team may need to schedule a little lighter next year. All those young / new guys are going to need some confidence. It would be great if we could win the Valley. The Supers may be a bit of a long-shot with the decimated roster.

How about just win the all-sports trophy from the MVC. I really could care less about the individual sports, per se, but would like for the dept to be the best again.

                        Men's BBall should be better.

Women's BBall better be better, or it will get ugly.

VBall should shoot for hosting an NCAA regional this year.

Baseball will be better than most expect.

Track is always good, isn't it?

                        Softball should get better.

Bowling isn't part of the athletic department, but does anyone expect less than at least one national championship?

I kinda forgot about this little gem. I think that is a real possibility. Hooper is the real deal and there is plenty of talent returning. I don't know what the schedule looks like but I am excited about another really good year and BIG crowds at the Chuck folks.

Track & Field should be really good as recruiting has taken a step up of late and there is a lot of talent returning. I too expect the All Sports Trophy to return to it's proper location in the spring of '09.

VB wins the Valley and wins at least one in the NCAAs

I don't know what to expect in baseball as I don't follow it as closely so I don't know what we really have returning and coming in. But I believe we pretty much always shoot for a Valley crown and an NCAA birth. Next year should be no different.

Basketball will finish in the top half. We may be young but we've got a lot of talent and athleticism.

I expect the Valley All Sports title to return to Wichita!

I would like to see the basketball team improve with each week to the point they could be a real threat in St Louis. Also a finish of no less than 6th.
