  • Maybe this should be under recruiting but...

I think this may be the best recruiting class we've had on paper in 25 years or more?

I think last years class was close to MT's first class on paper?

Anyone care to voice an opinion?

Yes, on paper I agree. With time, I think this class will be one that will hang some special banners on the rafters.

On paper definitely. If they can have the impact that Turgeons first class had I'll be happy. But I think they could have a bigger impact when everything is said and done. :D

I know it's more than 25 years, but c'mon: Levingston, Carr, Ozell, Randy (sat out a year prior?), Mike Jones (wasn't he a Juco xfer?)
I had season FOOTBALL tix... did you?

Where Aubrey Sherrod, Karl Papke and Greg Dreiling in the same recruiting class?

Sherrod and Dreiling were in the same class, 1981, I believe.

Papke was in 1980, as best I remember.

Someone forgot a player named McDanials who came in with Sherrod and Dreiling.

I think we've all forgotten about him. McDanials was a sleeper for a long time--still is.

Xavier McDaniel on the other hand....

                  :D

As far as Xavier, I remember a comment that Al McGuire made when he was in Wichita for a speaking engagement. A reporter asked him what he thought about Carr and Levingston.

Maguire's reply was that he liked those two, but there was a freshman forward on the team that he really liked. That player was McDaniel.

Maguire definitely had an eye for talent!

Jay Jackson was a sophmore that year ('79-80), I can't find him listed in the book the prior year. I can't recall that he was a xfer with Randy.

Tony Martin was recruited in '80-81.

Aubry, Xavier, and Greg Dreiling followed in '81-82. Karl Papke, too.

If GM can follow through with 2 more years like this one...

My memory was that Jay came from JUCO too. I think he came from Cowley with Randy. He did have 3 years of eligibility though, like Chamberlain. I'm at work and my 1979-1980 program is at home, so I'm not in a good position to look, but I'm sure there's someone out there who remembers for sure or has the program to read up on Jay.

Mike I'm just "wandering" about the story of your avatar :)

As far as the class, I think the preliminary consensus from folks who follow the program is this class has the potential to be a remomorable class.

Not to wish time away but I am looking forward to the fall and basketball. (After the Shocks return from Omaha of course!).
