  • Poll for pairing up Guards

I thought it would be interesting for a poll on how our guard play will start out.

  • #2
I voted Hannah and Reggie just for the beginning of the season. As the season progresses I think Toure could make a move into the 2 spot with either Clevin or Reggie starting at point guard.

I thought that AJ was a guard too? I must be confused, but if he is, then this poll is missing something...

He's a "3", which is either a SF or another guard, depending on the player.

For example, going by the last two players we had start the position, PJ was a guard, but Rob Kampman was more of a SF.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Actually, wasn't Rob playing the 4 with Jamar at the 3?

Yes, Howard played the three while Kampman played the four. MT's system allowed for a PF that spent a significant amount of time outside and a SF that posted up from time to time.

Interesting. With most, 55%, thinking Hannah starts at the 1, and Reggie at the 2, just how do you think Kyles and Murry will be subbing in the game.

Yes, I know that a 2nd line will not replace a first, although subbing in 2-3 combinations was done last year, and will be done this coming year.

It doesn't make sense to bring Kyles and Murry in together, but rather to let one of them in with either Hannah or Reggie at the point.

Just my opinion, but it seems to make more sense, to have Hannah or Reggie at the point, with either Kyles or Murry, and then bring in the other 2 to relieve them, keeping the points off the bench up, and not experience a letdown by subbing.

I still think you start the best two guards and early on it'll be Hannah and Chamberlain. One of the two will just about always be in the game and Kyles and Murry may play together in a three guard set at times.

Things can obviously change during the season if one proves to be able to play PG or even earn a spot over the other two.

I went with Reggie at the 1 and Hannah at the 2 with Kyles and Murray subbing.

However, this is really just a WAG since I have never seen on any of these 4 players in action on the court. Basically, I went with experience over potential at this point.

It would be interesting to re-do this poll after Shocker Madness to see how much opinions might change once we actually see the players on a basketball court.

I'm all for that poll when the time comes. Many, or at least some, of us will see some action over the summer. Then after Shocker Madness we may have completely different opinions. I'd love to see one of the FR step into a starting role. I can't wait...

I'm still of the opinion (especially after seeing that YouTube video - Wow!) that A.J. should be starting at the 2. He knows the system, he's apparently got a shot, and his size and athleticism would create a more favorable mismatch at the 2 than at the 3.

If I had to vote over again, I'd probably agree with Sub that the two best guards: Hannah and Chamberlain would start, but I went with the logic that Hannah gets the PG nod over Reggie because of experience, and Toure gets the nod over Kyles because of shooting ability (which may be completely wrong, but that's what I remember).

As Sub stated, it doesn't have to be two in, two out guys! You start Hannah and Chamberlin, I have no real preference as to which one is PG, but went with Reggie as the SG because he is a couple inches taller and less experienced than Clevin. Basically what you would do is start CH and RC and then bring in either TM or DK to play the 2 after about three minutes pass (TM for simplicity). Either CH or RC is left on the court as the PG (I'm going to say CH for simplicity). Two minutes later the RC comes in with DK to relieve and RC plays PG. Wto minutes more pass and CH comes back in for DK and RC rotates to the two. The process continues.

Over the course of the season I would bet that CH averages 28 minutes, RC averages 25 min, TM gets 13, and Kyles gets 10 a game. This is assuming that Murry doesn't RS to gain weight or DK to work on fundamentals. Hatch, Hawkins, or the walk-ons get the extra minutes.

Bottom line is that we have two juco combo guards in a small package and two freshman SG that MAY develop into PGs or SFs.

Nobody is redshirting I don't think, Murry is now 6-4 175 and Kyles is fundamentally sound at 6-3 170.HCGM brought in 4 guys thats gonna play alot.CH better bring his A game if he's gonna beat out RC at the pg, both will not start.Hannah was up and down during the season and was outplayed by RC in their head to head, I'm sure that's part of why RC was offered.

I think HCGM is looking for the most disruptive guard combo defense wise to put on the floor.
To make the other teams start their offense outside of their comfort zone. The quickest way for
Kyles or Murry to get extended time is 'D' it up which leads to transition buckets.
