A step in the right direction. Now the question is, will anything actually ever come from this? Or will they just find violations by schools that aren't as high profile and single them out as showing it's working?Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

That's my fear but I'm trying to hope for the best. I wouldn't mind seeing one of "those" schools getting nailed in the near future and really shake things up.
I do have a hard time believing that will happen though.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

Come on. They'll nail a bottom-feeder. What would really happen, and who would really suffer, if say Oklahoma lost a basketball schollie? They're a football school anyway.
That's my bet. If the NCAA busts anyone, they bust a big football school that just happens to have basketball too.Deep in the heart of couldn't give a crap about college basketball-land and I miss the SHOX.

You're probably correct there fastbow.
I heard Haertl and Lutz talking about this the other morning. They feel like the one and dones should automatically be investigated. I actually agree with that. There are rumors of Beasley receiving large sums and it appears that there is blatant proof that Mayo recieved $30K. How many more like them have received these benefits then left a year later? If the NCAA were to actually do their job, there would probably be only a handful of the big boys actually eligible for postseason play. Now they can't be having this happen, because they would lose too much money.

As for penalties, I still believe the NCAA should allow non-involved players/coaches to participate in post season, but allow only minimal travel expense to be covered and divide the remainder of the post-season money among the other members of the conference! Any individuals involved would have penalties follow them through their college careers and coaches would have to serve the penalty at any NCAA school to which they go (no time limit, so a coach could not avoid serving the penalty by time in the pro leagues or non-coaching).
Can you IMAGINE how the Texas alumni would feel about having to send $$$ to Oklahoma and aTm, just as an example?"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

That's a great idea but you know the NCAA doesn't have the stones to go there.
I do agree that after the first couple of major hits that those schools who do similar would stop. At least for the most part.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

There was some guy on Jim Rome a couple days ago that changed my mind about letting 18 year-olds to jump to the NBA. I did not catch the guys name, but his opinion was that as long as these kids are forced to go to college there will be payments and unsavory people involved. How do you tell a kid who has been literally dirt poor for his whole life that he has to stay poor for another year or two even though he has the ability to play professional ball? I know that almost all people would benefit from some college education, plus the ancillary experiences, but for the fairly small number of athletes who are ready for professional ball, I say let them go. The temptation is too great and they probably do not have the experience and guidance to ignore bad advice from people who are not looking out for their best interests. Of course the same is true of the NBA but in the NBA that kind of crap is the norm.
Clean up college basketball. Let kids jump to the NBA, if they are good enough. Punish - really punish - schools that break the rules.

I've seen where Brand has said they have "new information" on the Mayo thing. If what's been said is true, and they have the evidence and don't come down hard on USC, we all will officially know what a sham this appears to be. But I'm still hopeful that the NCAA will do something that has some teeth.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
