  • Logan Stutz on board

he will be attending WSU as a walk-on this coming year. good to have him on board for the Shockers. I think he can spell Clemente some minutes, do some banging and bring a good coachable work ethic. I'm very pleased.
Unleash Brett Burley, let all tremble before him!!!

    Thanks for the info, shockdawg.

Does this affect Brett Burley being here?

(for some reason I get the feeling I'm forgetting something that we already know)

No word on the "Burley effect", I hope not, even if guys don't see the floor a lot in game time they can sure help out in practice by keeping the energy level high and making the starters work.
I would love to see a high/low post game with G Stutz up high and a grunt underneath (Orupke would be beyond a grunt).

What happens, if OE can play the four?

Talk about a transformation. The 08-09 team will have little resemblance to the 07-08 team.

Five new starters will not surprise me.

If OE can play the 4 I think Coach Marshall might need to take sedatives because his grin will be freaking people out.

Seven foot tall, athletic, needs coaching. Sounds like a center to me. There aren't even many 7' PFs in the NBA (I realize there are some really good ones, but not many of them), so I don't know why everyone wants to make our 7'ers into forwards.

                Because....

                1. Wichita State does not play in the NBA.

                2. It is usually preferred to have the best 5 players on the floor.

                3. A 7' power forward is not unheard to some.

                4. Suitable for certain match-ups.

                5. A 7' player may be able to play multiple positions such as 5 and 4. Magic at 6-9 played the 1 and 5.

                6. Foul trouble situations.

                7. Twin towers post attack.

                8. If both 7' players are effective, I cannot imagine one sitting for 25-30 minutes per game.

                That's just me.

The "needs coaching" comment reinforces what we've presumed to be the case. EO is a defensive stud that needs a lot of work on the offensive end.

I have no doubt that Ramon will be our starting PF next year.

I don't disagree with any of that. We already know that Stutz's skill set might allow him to play some 4. However, when discussing Orupke and even some of the recruits, somebody always has to ask if they could play the 4. My point is that if you are 7' tall, you don't have to be able to play the 4. Every description of EO that I have heard is of a very athletic guy with very raw skill. It is very unlikely that he has anywhere near the skill set to be a 4. If he is as advertised he could probably come in and average 10 pts, 10 rebs, and 3 blocks without shooting from outside 5 feet. I don't think anybody should be disappointed in that and I don't think anybody should be expecting him to be a forward.

This really is good news. I believe that Logan can add lots to this team, whether he sees the floor or not. But I do think he'll see the floor.

If any of the 7 footers play any 4 it would be Garrett. He can step out and hit from deep and has decent ball handling skills for a big man. Still, most of their time will be spent at the 5. Although I'm sure they'd play some together :D

Having Logan on board is great. I've heard nothing but great things about his character and work ethic. Which really shouldn't be all that surprising based on what we know of Garrett and his family through the recruiting process.

Will he play much? Who knows. I never expect much PT from a walk-on but if they can earn it, great. But the contributions he'll make in practice should be great and I think he'll provide some good leadership in the future as well.

With that said, do we have any official word on this? I haven't seen anything in the Eagle.

I think this is great. I hope Logan and Garrett (and Toure, Clevin, David and Reggie) all enjoy their years as Shockers!!

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Lets also remember he'd be fighting for PT in the post with Garrett, Ehimen, Ramon, JT, Mantas and Aaron. And Brett is also in that mix if he develops.

I believe either Burley or Michaels won't be here next year, if Logan is, because aren't only 2 walkons allowed, 15 players total? Burley seems a little out of his element and slow to me.

Just perusing some articles about Logan, he had 9 points and 10 rebounds one game, 25 points and 12 rebounds another, including hitting some 3 pointers.
Although Butler had a losing season, Logan seemed to perform pretty well.

I can not find individual player stats for the 07-08 season for Butler.
