WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State men's basketball attendance topped the 10,000-mark for a 14th consecutive year and ranked 34th nationally, according to the NCAA's final 2016-17 report.

But I thought Bradley was on top of attendance? Silly me! Lmfao!

What would be nice is if the release shared the opponent attendance for the Shocks compared to their attendance. I believe some intrepid poster has already completed the task.

I am willing to guess the 39% bump is in a very high percentile for D1 teams. It indicates a big fish in a little pond.

Wow there must be several Eville type schools in the AAC to bring the conference average down as much as it did. I can probably guess which ones.

I like the LOY jump. That's just straight impressive. And I guess SIU and Eville fans knew the outcome and didn't bother coming for that one.

                  Tulane is Loyola 2.0.

It's disappointing--and surprising to some degree--that Memphis has such low attendance during some bad years. I figured the fanbase was a little more fanatical than that. But when they start winning again they should help conference attendance numbers dramatically.

I did an analysis of this during our 35-0 season. And wouldn't you know it, just a few weeks ago I deleted the spreadsheet I used. But what I recall is that attendance at WSU's road conference games experienced a roughly 50% increase over the average.

I found my posts in the thread from 2014:

I wanted to see how many more people are going to Valley games at MVC venues when WSU is in town. Not including Loyola or Bradley, the other seven schools average 4778 per game against teams other than WSU. The average for the seven games involving WSU is 8072. That's 3294 more fans (nearly 70%) when WSU is the opponent. Total that up and it comes to 23,058.

I have no idea what other schools charge for those extra tickets, and surely there were some cheap ticket promotions in order to boost numbers. But if we try to put it in terms of dollars, using a wild (and perhaps conservative) guess of $7 for average ticket price, that's about $161,000 of additional revenue spread over seven MVC schools. Obviously not a program-changing amount of money, but I'm sure our Valley brethren aren't complaining about $20k more revenue than expected for just one game.
I should mention there is an outlier in the data. Attendance for the game at SIU was actually less than their average without WSU. Surely due to it being a low-point for SIU and before talk of WSU running the table really started to heat up.
                        From user @bunck:
I believe the students were gone too.
After eliminating SIU from the data, the numbers change to:

                        WSU game average: 8602
                        Non-WSU game avg: 4746
                        Difference: 3856 (81% higher)

Using the same assumption of $7/ticket, that's right at $27k per school.
So it wasn't 50%, but between 70 and 81%, depending on if the game with SIU while students were gone is included in the data.

If I include the Bradley and Loyola games (they hadn't been played when the above posts were made), the increase is about 76%.

Wonder if we'll see similar (increased) numbers in AAC play. Will the bigger cities in the AAC draw more when the Shocks come to town??? I'm guessing yes.

The number 1 team in the country generally draws a crowd.
