  • "Rothstein | Landry Shamet on track for November return" - FanRag Sports

    Posted on Oct 9, 2017

"Wichita State guard Landry Shamet remains on track to return in November while currently recovering from a stress fracture in his right foot, head coach Gregg Marshall has informed FanRag Sports.

Shamet originally suffered the injury back in late July. In fact, such an occurrence actually marked the second time that he had sustained a foot injury during his collegiate career. During his freshman season, Shamet suffered a compound fracture in his right foot and was forced to redshirt as a result.

The sophomore played in 36 games last season en route to making 35 starts. In those contests, Shamet averaged 11.4 points, 3.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds over 26.7 minutes per game. He shot 47.2 percent from the floor, 43.9 percent from three-point range and 80.2 percent from the free-throw line. Shamet also posted a true-shooting percentage of 62.9 and an effective field-goal percentage of 59.8. Thanks to his terrific efficiency, the Kansas City, Missouri native also recorded .227 win shares per 48 minutes.

The Shockers went 31-5 last season and lost in the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32. The heralded mid-major program has now reached the “Big Dance” in six consecutive years, a stretch that has included a run all the way to the Final Four back in 2012-13. Wichita State has notably won at least 30 contests in four of the last six seasons as well."

This will give our bench needed minutes that hopefully will payoff in March.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Agreed. We need Landry back, but we have a lot of proven depth on the wing that allows us more flexibilty with McDuffie.

            • Exciting. I'm getting hopeful he'll be able to play the week before Maui. Get a chance to get his legs under him. We may even need him in that Charleston game depending on how far along SHJ is. I think Charleston will be formidable this season.

                • with the added exhibition. I think he could sit out the first exhibition, get some light minutes in the 2nd, then play a bit more in the 2 regular seasons game. That also give SHJ 4 games to learn in real time.

But I don't want him back too soon where we have another FVV-like circumstance. I'd much rather keep him on the bench until he is absolutely 100%. I'm sure that's 3G's plan.

He obviously needs to be completely healthy so that this injury doesn’t return...but if Landry can play against Charleston, he’s probably going to be needed for 30+ minutes. That game won’t be a pushover.
