The season he had in 2012 gets lost in the shuffle of the team and individual success of the 5 years after it.

It's funny, that may have been Marshall's 2nd best team behind the undefeated squad.

That team was one of the best teams we've had. They simply choked in a defensive game against VCU. They were the anti-final 4 team. If you could say we caught a little bit of luck getting the to Final 4, you could also say we had a little bad luck when the 2012 team got ousted too soon. I'm really glad Joe is continuing to be successful.

With Fred as a given (might as well not include him in this question), who would you rather have? ArmStud or Ragland? To me, there is a razor thin line between what I think Armstead accomplished and what Ragland was capable of. Right now, I'd take Ragland. I'll probably change my mind later.

I definitely agree that 2012 team was so special and got a poor matchup style wise in the first round. At least a couple ESPN and CBS analysts had us as a dark horse pick to the Final 4 that year.

Rags was indeed a special Shocker point guard that was a fine shooter and a scorer. It would be great if he did land on an NBA squad. This young man has game and we know he can defend because he was and always will be a Shocker!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

A tip of the hat to Sully for his highlight of Rags accomplishment.

Evan Wessel once told me that he thought the 2012 team was better than the Final Four team. I had no interest in arguing with him for fear of being broken into 7865 pieces.

3G has recruited a long, continuous string of outstanding PG's, any of which were/are, on any given string of nights, capable of taking their particular team to the Sweet 16 and beyond. We can't control the teams that the NCAA schedules us to play early on, but we can hope that now being in The American Conference, we will be looked on more fairly than we have been in the recent past.

I loved Joe. Just wish he had taken the last shots against ISUR and VCU. Would have liked our chances.

IIRC VCU did a heck of a job making sure that he wasn't anywhere near the ball on that final play. Don't remember the ISUR play well, but they most likely just had a guy trying to hit him in the nuts the entire time on the last play

Very glad Mr. Ragland choose to be a Shocker. Joe was a great player on both ends of the floor. It would not surprise me if he played in the NBA if he chooses to give it a try. Wish him the best as it's clear he is performing at a very high level. Here's hoping we can find another four year player just like Joe.

VCU was a freaking buzzsaw. 2012 was a really good team. Tough to say who would sit if you added Ragland, Hall, Stutz, Cotton and Murry to our current team. Hindsight, but who among us would have punted '09 to 12 wins to take Stutz on the Final Four team? Coaches aren't in the business of winning tomorrow.

His on-court achievements in '12 were phenomenal. Probably the best in recent Shocker history.

I think you answered your own question with the Stutz comment. To me, Stutz is the one player I would hands-down sit our current center for. The rest of them are hard to say. A backcourt of Cotton/Murry/Ragland is a pretty close call against Landry/Frankamp/Brown. Hall versus McDuffie is a tough call because they are so different. But Stutz versus Shaq is an easy one for me. I loved Garrett. Although, it is unfair to Shaq to compare him to Garrett until he has completed his senior year.

Fun/depressing what if... What if it's Stutz wide open under the basket when Ron passes up on a decent 3 instead of Orupke?
