  • Simon and Bush earn Walk On All American status:

Simon recognized for draining cups of water. Bush for chest bumps.

Very pleased to hear that. JR has a lot of pull behind him but I think it is clear he has earned this and will do a great job and will be an asset to the team. I think JR will grow into an oustanding basketball coach over time if that is the path he chooses.

Are you suggesting that bringing on JR Simon as a grad assistant somehow effects Devon Smith's position as Manager of Player Developement? It doesn't. As far as I know Devon is not going anywhere unless I missed something.

The grad assistant postion is essentially an internship the JR can serve as long as he is a grad student working towards a graduate degree. I believe his compensation is limited to a full scholarship. This is a reward to JR for his contributions to the program but grad asistant postions are valuable as a early stepping stone towards a coaching career.

JR will not be able to do any recruiting off-campus. Only 4 coaches may do that. At WSU that would be 3G, Donnie Jones, Isaac Brown and Kyle Linsted.

Not at Wichita State. Here is his bio:

Devon Smith, a former Director of Basketball Operations at Louisville and an Ohio State graduate, embarks on his ninth season as Wichita State's manager of player
