  • WuShock creater's son seeking "property" rights?

It looks like he thinks WSU should pay him for the rights to use WuShock, which his Dad created in a contest where there was no cash prize.

He hired an attorney, who contacted WSU. WSU feels the letters from the attorney were an attempt to extort money from WSU.

It is arguably one of the most unusual characters in college sports, but there's something you may not know: WuShock's creator was never paid for his design.

Maybe WSU should just give his family some tickets to a couple of games next year since he said money wasn't mentioned.

From the ‘ya’ gotta be shittin’ me’ departiment…

“WuShock is displayed prominently in Wichita State fan Fred Brooks's basement turned 'Wu cave' where Shocker memorabilia covers the walls.
"It started from the floor and it went to the ceiling. And the last count I had, we had about 5,000 Shocker things," Brooks says.
Besides what's displayed, Brooks says he has a few thousand more items packed away in boxes.
"All of this stuff is special to me, and I have friends, they call this the Wichita State museum," Brooks says.”

I thought the story was a let-down (meh) after a two week build up. Larry Hatteberg would have knocked it out of the park and Roger Cornish hen could have made it a better story. I’ve been a KWCH viewer most of my ‘television life’ and it isn’t what it used to be.

Not an attorney, but my guess is even that would be some admission on the school's part that he was owed something.

By the facts given in the article it's a guessing game as to whether he has any real claim. Did the school organize the contest or did his fraternity? Regardless, he agreed to both the rules and the outcome of the contest when he entered it.

The 2015 court ruling mentioned in the article likely only conveyed whatever rights Dad had to Son, which may be nothing.

I thought it was strange they started in that guy's basement and then went on to talk about Elsea's son. That guy's basement really had little to do with the Wu story. I know someone from Elsea's family and I can tell you that he is looking for money. I was told that he got the family's permission to go after WSU for money to take care of his children for life. Basically looking for life insurance without having to buy it.

I thought it was also interesting that his Dad did not want his son pursuing this during his lifetime. Probably just didn't want the hassle and notriety of the lawsuit.
