  • 2021 First and Second Rounds

Looks like the NCAA chose Wichita for the 2021 first and second rounds again.

The NCAA has selected host sites for finals of predetermined championships in Divisions I, II and III. The Final Four sites for 2023-26 have also been announced. Here are the selections for Division I:

    Yay!
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I'm so excited. I should be moved back to Wichita by then. Now I don't have to feel as bad about missing out on it being in town next year.

Man I love having a nice downtown arena.

This is great for the city of Wichita and KU fans. Unfortunately, it guarantees all Shocker fans will be travelling further to see our Shocks play. For instance if we are a protected seed this year we will play in Dallas while KU plays here in Wichita. It would be really nice to spend the first weekend in Wichita.

It's not like if we're a 1 seed they'll put us in the backyard of our 2nd round opponent or something silly like that.

Hopefully we will have a plan in place to transfer the hosting duties to the AAC if the possibility of a 1 seed existed. I'm sure if the AAC move never happened the MVC would've taken over for next year.

Or maybe the NCAA will change the rule by 2021 anyways. I think it's a bit silly that we're allowed to play NCAA tournament games in Wichita.

Maybe at some point down the line, WSU would be established enough with the American that such an idea could be explored, but considering that this is only the second time for Intrust to host, I think trying to rig it so that WSU could play at home is probably not a realistic idea.

Besides, there is probably a financial benefit to the athletic department spearheading this.

And, I think, a definite upside for the city to have other teams here. If we're here, that's 25-35% of the revenue from hotels, airfare, restaurants, and other establishments that would not be going into the Wichita economy.

Yep great for the city of Wichita but not so much if you're hoping to catch a Shockers game. Main reason why I didn't purchase advance tix for 2018 was because I knew it probably be KU playing & whoever else. Wish I have the extra cash to sit on for a year plus to turnaround & gouge their fan base. All my extra cash goes to season tickets which will be going nothing but up but well worth it! See you never Drake & company!
If you're not going to go all the way, why go?

And guess what? We will no longer beholden to MVC for hosting like we will be in 2018!

Does anyone have the details of what we have to do regarding co-sponsorship with MVC of the 2018 Big Dance???

Do we have to hang MVC sign's all over town and the IBA???

Lots of KU fans in Wichita too, unfortunately. Good thing both WSU and KU fans love dinning out.

No. Not in the arena at least. Very, very controlled environment. The NCAA covers everything up. They cover up any permanent advertising and ship in the floor, wich will include one Wichita, one Wichita State logo, an IBA logo and MVC logo- and nothing else. The arena will have no more advertising than any other arena, the NCAA works diligently to make every arena lookthe same. The largest logos will be "Wichita" on the baseline.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
