When I'm in town for a game, I usually park at the RSC. That is roughly equivalent to a 5-6 block walk downtown, and it's usually a pleasant stroll. Granted, it's not uphill both ways in a blizzard while being attacked by wild dogs.

Also some perspective: I used to work in downtown Denver. I would routinely walk 10 blocks just for lunch. Walking is something Wichitans love to hate, and I've never understood why.
No mountains to look at while you're doing it. That's why.

Really? That's hard to believe. In what games? Who?

I'm kind of the anti-Wichitan. I intentionally park far away so that I have a long walk. I need all the exercise I can get. And if the weather is nice, my wife and I enjoy the walk through campus.

I do this everywhere, at work, grocery store, restaurants, etc. Got to get those steps in on my Apple Watch. :)

I think parking is the biggest problem for a lot of folks. When we voted to build IBA a parking garage for the arena was part of the deal, it was never built and parking is a pain in the ass anytime the arena is more than half full.

We don't have much for mass transit here so driving is the only way to get to IBA for most people and not having adequate parking for events makes a mess of things.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

Lol. It's kinda depressing though--knowing all that skiing and hiking you could be doing but instead you're stuck in a cubicle all day...

But parking isn't an issue. At all. Whatsoever.

Go to ANY arena in the country (many bigger than IBA) and see how the parking works. It's the EXACT same situation. You can't put 8,000 parking spots within 200 feet of an arena entrance. It's not possible. Basic physic laws don't allow for it. It's not hard to understand.

And lol if you think parking garages are a part of the solution, then you're clueless. Parking garages are the worst answers when wanting to get in and out of places quickly.

At most places when they try and stripe an arena they have to give out tee shirts to do it. The most impressive thing about the stripe game was that all they had to do was put out flyers the game before to please wear yellow if you're sitting in these sections and please wear black for these sections and most folks did.

IBA is not louder than Koch. IBA is made for concerts so there is more sound absorption than you will find in Koch. Of course it been awhile since thee has been that "big game" in Koch since CU left.

                    • Players are going to be shocked when Cinci takes the floor next year.

                      • Thanks for the answers. Dome environment and transportation issues make a lot of sense. I live in NYC and often take the train to Hartford to see UCONN play. FYI, Gampel is also a dome so I know what you're talking about when it comes to noise. Cheers!

Hard to explain with words. Make sure you catch a game at Koch and you will have your explanation.

I would have to disagree with your thoughts on this. Parking hasn't ever been a problem for IBA. There are plenty of spots and there is even a parking APP that will tell you where there are spots available. Just last Friday we were running late for the Eric Church concert and pulled up about 10 minutes before he was slated to start (it was nearly sold out). We parked a block and a half a way. Not a problem at all. Even for the OKST game in a pretty good snow it wasn't that bad. Without a parking pass at Koch I normally walk as far. AND if you don't want to walk you can take a shuttle and probably walk less than 100 steps to the door.

If there is anyone that has been to a few events at IBA and can honestly say that its not a vast improvement for our city to have an arena downtown I'm guessing they're either not being entirely honest or just aren't trying to enjoy it for some strange reason. But some will never be convinced.

If you don't believe me, ask HCGM... he's a big fan!
