Now we know the time it should become official lets relive some of the love/hate we have for our old conference.


I will miss being part of the root for the little guys. I don't think of the AAC teams in the same light as the little guys. I won't be the same knowing that we really aren't a part of that now.

I will miss our history of our old conference. This is the only home for the Shocks in my lifetime.

I won't miss the guy from Arch madness on the screen. Tell me something nice about St Louis and I will say something nice about your town.

Is this basketball only?

The Florida State NIT game. We lost, but it was one of the most exciting and loudest ever.

STL

I know I'm not in the majority, but will really miss STL.
21 straight years has generated lots of memories. It starts with meeting some really nice people, fantastic dining and despite a mostly frustrating WSU history, a lot of decent basketball.

However, going to Fla in early March will not be a problem and 70 degree temps vs dealing March weather in STL is a big time plus.

The interesting move will be who The Valley invites to join as a replacement.

That is all.

I will not miss Scottrade Center and the awful over-priced food. But I'm glad we won what is now our last tourney in the MVC.

The Throw will probably go down as my all-time fav moment against an MVC foe.

Matt Brauer's Valentine's Day dagger probably ranks as second most enjoyable in a long list of runner-ups. Something about spending almost two decades trying so hard to climb out of the abyss, and the moment you finally knew you'd clawed your way out...hard to describe.

Fittingly both were against the school that left the MVC prior and that started the downward spiral.

Best memory in conf play has to be... "Ogirri, Braeuer, for the win. GOT IT!"

I was a student at the time and the energy and joy following that shot was incredible. The student section lost their minds and after there were many celebration beers!

Worst memory is a tie between the 1.9 game and the Jacobson buzzer beater 3 at the Chuck.

I'll miss the Valley....but no love lost from me. They got exactly what they deserved. Continually ignoring the largest fanbases isn't going to turn out well. Creighton and WSU wanted the MVC tourney in KC but the MVC said St Louis was a better fit. Good luck with your better fit now when the arena is at 5% capacity. And of course the history and support of having the MVC baseball tourney in Wichita, but since that wasn't fair to others let's move it around to stadiums where absolutely no one shows up for the games. Hopefully the Valley of Fairness (unless you're Wichita St) lives on! Now they can, in good conscience give COY to someone other than Marshall...he doesn't deserve it because WSU is supposed to be good. Nope, not bitter here. ROFL

Been waiting most impatiently for years hoping we could somehow manage to get out of the MVC. But, I could never quite see how we could reasonably do so, unless we could get an invite from either an existing non- football conference or spend millions upon millions for what most likely would have been a below average football team, at best.

And then along came the AAC with a strong desire to add a strong BB school which also fitted in with their reputation for excellence in academics and all other sports as well.

On leaving the MVC, we still should never forget the great moments; the tough victories/heart breaking loses, and all of our very great Shocker players who represented our outstanding university from 1945, when we joined the conference, til the present. And lets not forget some of the very great BB players and other athletes from our sister MVC schools who graced us with their tremendous talents like Cincy’s, Oscar Robinson, Larry Bird, and Hersey Hawkins, to name just a few.

I’ve mentioned previously and will do so again - During the 1950's and 60's, and for a number of years, the MVC was arguably, and I wasn’t the only one who thought so, the best Basketball Conference in the nation with Cincy taking 2 national titles. Plus Drake, Bradley, Memphis, Tulsa, Houston, and Wichita all had a string of great years. Unlike in recent years, the conference was tough from top to bottom.

Personally, I have many many fond memories to include going to games at the old Forum Auditorium, downtown on S. Market Street, with my father and brother in the mid 1940's and watching us play Oklahoma A&M (OSU), coached by Hall of Famer, Hank Iba. Those were such boring games as the scores often ended in the low-to-mid-twenties, as there was no shot clock. Coach Iba was a master at those tactics. Iba's players would just stand around and pass the ball for minutes-on-end, hoping to eventually getting an easy shot or draw a foul. What made it worse, they were all tremendous (under handed) foul shooters.

I, for one, when I look back from whence we came, and the many tremendous years of BB, and all sports, that we have had in The Missouri Valley Conference, will both do so with pride in our old conference and particularly in WSU's own past achievements as well.

It has been a great ride, but it is likewise a most fitting time for us to go.

With respect, I wish the Missouri Valley Conference great success in the future, and am most proud, and even more thrilled that we are very soon now going to be joining our new conference, the AAC.

I'm going to miss Gregg Marshall.

There, it's been said ... in print no less. Sound crazy? You bet. No one is more surprised than the guy in the mirror.

Here's the thing. Marshall is the antagonist every good story needs. It's nearly impossible to have edge-of-your-seat drama without one, and no one is better theater than Marshall...."
